One of the masterclasses I recently attended was for , where I had the pleasure of tasting three of their most classic red wines from the 2021 vintage—a challenging year for Bordeaux.
As everywhere in Bordeaux, the soil plays a vital role in the terroir, and this is especially true at Château Dauzac. Each wine came from different soil types: the Aurore from fine, sandy soil, the Labastide from gravel with a clay dominance, and the Château Dauzac from deep gravel ridges. Each wine beautifully showcased the uniqueness of its micro-terroir and high quality.
The highlight of the masterclass, however, was the Franc de Pied—a single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from an isolated half-hectare plot with ungrafted vines that had been carefully selected over many years. The 2021 is the first release, with only 600 bottles available and a retail price of €1,540. A truly exceptional and unique wine!
Kudos to Château Dauzac for their dedication, effort, and patience in reviving the original taste of Cabernet Sauvignon. 🍇🍷
