"We Will Walk The Clouds Together", to understand why these words mean so much to me today, allow me to briefly explain. When doctors in Canada diagnosed the pain & inflammation I was experiencing daily as "incurable" "life long" dis-ease called "IBD". It took me 8 months to gather the wisdom, the courage and the faith to leave all their medications and ignorance, and move to a new city and unbeknownst to me, I was moving to a completely new life.

Next to my new apartment was a nature trail, and to get there I had to briefly go through a cemetery called Mount Pleasant Cemetery. So every morning, I would wake up and go walk in nature for 2 hours.

As the weeks went by, and i grew in knowledge, wisdom and faith, I began to notice little signs I would see. My old life being in this system, constantly under stress, tired, and moving from one transient experience of pleasure to another., represented death. And slowly only by the grace of God I was walking into his light, I surrendered my life and said "let your will be done, and not my own". "transform me & give me a new heart to love you God".

And I remember when I first saw and read what was written on this tombstone "We Will Walk the Clouds Together". I knew and felt at that moment a sense of peace that surpasses all understanding. No matter what happens, I was on the right path, nothing can hurt me.

The week before I was getting on that non-stop Egyptair flight from Toronto to Cairo, I had to go back and take a picture of that tombstone, to remind myself of this moment that I will never forget.

No matter where you are today, if you are sick with any affliction, remember, do not give away your power to any man. Healing is a journey and this path is yours and yours alone.

For hundreds of years, before modern medicine and all the new derivatives of it, true herbalists were healing people and creating powerful herbal medicine and natural remedies. Throughout the ages we were forced to watch the ignorance and insanity of modern medicine (in the name of science) from unnecessary surgeries to bloodletting. To today where some doctors are poisoning their patients back to health!

I believe as an herbalist in empowering you and sharing the knowledge & wisdom I was freely given to those who deserve it and will use it wisely and ethically. Do not remain a student depending on the "gurus" and "health coaches" of today. Learn, evolve, find your own power and become your own herbalist/healer. An herbal tincture is a powerful herbal remedy that all of you can learn how to make yourself.

What are Tinctures? tinctures are simply concentrated herbal extracts that have organic alcohol as a solvent. An acetum is known as a tincture with vinegar as the solvent (rare, but I use this to make lobelia acid tinctures to clear the lungs of mucus and assist my clients in overcoming ni****ne addiction).

Herbs contain hundreds of individual chemical components working together synergistically and when used as medicine exerts a physiological effect on the body. Extracting and understanding these have been the work of herbalists for thousands of years.

Some are easily soluble in water (tea / infusion), some require more energy to be soluble in water (decoctions), some are fat soluble in oil (infused oils / salves), and some require a strong solvent like alcohol to dissolve and extract them (tinctures).

What you will need to create your own tincture:
your herb of choice, glass jar and a solution of 50% alcohol (the percentage does change for each type of herb, but for simplicity in this apprentice class we will use a standard of 50%).

The ratio of the weight of the herbs to the weight of the solvent used defines the strength or concentration of the tincture. You will usually find 1:1 ratio (rare very concentrated), 1:2 ratio (very strong), 1:4 ratio (average, commonly found in herbal apothecaries).

If you will be making a 1:4 ratio, that means for every 1 gram of herbs, you will use 4 grams of your 50% alcohol solution.

After you have made your desired solution and mixed both herbs and solvent in the glass jar, you put a lid on and put that in a cool dark shelve somewhere in your house. Shake several times a week. Allow the mixture to extract for 6 - 8 weeks.

You can then strain the mixture and press out as much of the medicine and store in a dark amber glass bottle that you can label with the botanical name of the herb(s) and date of extraction. This can be used as medicine.

We are all in this together. We are reaping what was sown the past 100 years. But we are powerfully made in the image of our creator and within each of us is the power to heal and to shine a light in this darkness.
