Where to eat in San Sebastián 🇪🇸
Bodega Donostiarra (de Gros) - head out of the old town if it’s crowdedand go for pintxos at Donista. So good we went twice, the prawn and the octopus were especially good.
Geralds Bar Donosti - Famed for the steak tartar, and incredible service. Only tried the beef but the rest of the food looked fantastic, sit at the bar if you are solo or want to be in on all the action.
- Recommended by a local this rugby themed bar had some killer calamari and battered prawns, perfect with a Vermut blanco.
Gandarias Jatetxea | Restaurante en Donostia - One of the oldest bars in the city, the pintxos are great. We tried the beef, the duck and the famed sea urchin custard.
- we stood in the queue to get this famed burger, and stood up to eat to eat it at the bar, it was hella tasty and worth the hype. They have a second location now, so go there if you want to sit down or are in a larger group.
Bar Sport SS - Famous for a reason. We went here in our first visit, and didn’t intend to go this time but ended up stopping for breakfast as it was open early. The black pudding was especially good.
Antonio Bar - the secret is well and truly out, the best tortilla in San Sebastián by far, flavoured with caramelised onions. The service is fast too, you won’t wait long for a spot.
Bar Néstor 1980 - a total disappoint. The food is good value for what you get, but the steak was tasteless and tortilla way over hyped. You can get much better at other spots. With the queue it’s just a tourist trap.
Cheesecake - we loved La Via on our last visit, we missed out on trying one this time around. We tried the BASSK Cheesecakers instead which was nice but no La Via.
One thing to note is that San Sebastián has got incredibly busy these days since it blew up on Instagram, it’s a small place that’s not meant for so many people. Consider splitting your stay with other places along the coast or go to Bilbao too like we did. It’s the foodie capital of the world for a reason, but you can find great things to eat across the whole region.
