🔴 BREAKING: President Kiir Orders Establishment of Defence University in Juba

Juba, South Sudan | October 14, 2026

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the government to begin the process of establishing a specialised university focusing on defence, security and strategic studies in Juba.

According to Radio Tamazuj, the directive instructs the National Council for Higher Education, through the Ministry of Higher Education, to initiate the formal approval and accreditation process for the proposed institution.

The university is expected to offer specialised programmes in defence, security, science and technology, strategic studies, and hazard management, with the aim of strengthening the professional capacity of the country’s armed forces.

President Kiir has also directed the Ministry of Finance and Planning to provide start-up funding and allocate a recurring operational budget. However, the proposed university still requires statutory approval and accreditation, and its opening date and total establishment cost have not been announced.

🔴 BREAKING: Rumbek Clashes Leave 71 Dead, Including Four Soldiers

Juba, South Sudan | October 9, 2026

At least 71 people, including four soldiers, have reportedly been killed in clashes involving armed civilians in Rumbek, the capital of South Sudan’s Lakes State, according to a preliminary government report.

The violence reportedly erupted around 4 a.m. on Friday, following earlier clashes in Nyangkot village on Thursday that left four people dead. Fighting later spread into residential areas, forcing residents to flee to nearby villages for safety.

Authorities say joint security forces have brought the situation under control. Four armed civilians have reportedly been arrested, and four fi****ms recovered.

The government has urged communities to remain calm and avoid retaliatory attacks, stressing that the casualty figures remain preliminary as investigations continue.
