Located in Pauillac and bordering Saint-Julien, Château Haut-Batailley is known for its mysterious Tour l'Aspic. Château Haut-Batailley is a Pauillac 1855 Grand Cru Classé that is easily spotted on account of its tower, La Tour L’Aspic, which stretches up into the sky, a statue of the Virgin Mary at its summit. The mysterious tower overlooks a vineyard to the southwest of the Pauillac appellation,

and neighbouring Saint-Julien. The 2017 vintage was the first vintage to be produced by the Cazes family,(, who owns the nearby Château Lynch-Bages. With sun bursting through clouds, the label of Haut-Batailley Verso is an echo of her sibling's poetic imagery.

Les grappes ont atteint leur maturité optimale et s’apprêtent à quitter la vigne pour rejoindre le chai.

The grapes have reached full ripeness and are ready to leave the vine and make their way to the winery.

Depuis le sommet de la Tour l’Aspic, la Vierge contemple les vignes de Château Haut-Batailley depuis près de cent cinquante ans. Longtemps, la légende a voulu qu’elle foule à ses pieds un aspic, symbole de la tentation et du mal. Une restauration de l’édifice a finalement révélé qu’elle surmontait en réalité un parterre de roses…

From the top of the Tour l’Aspic, the Virgin Mary has watched over the vineyards of Château Haut-Batailley for nearly 150 years. For generations, legend held that she stood upon an asp, a symbol of temptation and evil. The restoration of the monument, however, revealed that she was in fact standing above a bed of roses…

Après la récolte, place à la mise en pot, deuxième étape de cette aventure. Bientôt, chaque pot recevra son étiquette, dernière touche avant de dévoiler le premier miel de Château Haut-Batailley.

With the harvest complete, it is time for the honey to be jarred, the second step in this journey. Soon, each jar will receive its label, the final touch before the unveiling of Château Haut-Batailley’s very first honey.

Au Château Haut-Batailley, la véraison marque le début d'une nouvelle étape du cycle végétatif. Les baies commencent progressivement à se colorer et à s'enrichir en sucres, tandis que leur maturité aromatique se construit jour après jour.

At Château Haut-Batailley, véraison marks the beginning of a new chapter in the vineyard. As the grapes gradually change colour and accumulate sugars, they begin their journey towards full aromatic and phenolic ripeness.

La vigne ne révèle rien à celui qui ne prend pas le temps de l'observer. Jour après jour, nous suivons l'évolution de chaque parcelle afin d'accompagner au mieux son équilibre.

The vine reveals nothing to those who do not take the time to observe it. Day after day, we monitor the evolution of each plot, helping to preserve its balance and accompany its development throughout the season.
