September was busy!

So much Bordeaux. And it was delightful 🍷

Back at WSET School for year 2

Still just love this space The Oxford W**e Company Turl Street Cellar

Oxford W**e Festival '26 was a surreal whirlwind but a fun whirlwind 😅

Couldn't quite work out if I felt like a tourist/stranger/filled with nostalgia

September was the month the cold lake swimming obsession really took hold

The first roast chicken of the season with this was 👌

September was also the month that we discovered kids' yoga on YouTube and all our visitors were exceptionally gracious about being subjected to it

A surprise win for this 2021 Aldi purchase found in the cupboard under the stairs and perfect with a Lebanese spiced lamb dish 🤤

Somehow, amongst everything else, there was plenty of glorious family time too

More Bordeaux 🤌

Nothing like clearing away from a tasting to get your heart rate up. Gym membership ❌ w**e tasting job ✅

Because I forgot (again) to take a picture before everyone started packing away at this private tasting. Luckily, they were a lovely group and obligingly waved instead 👋

Don't think my lack of editing skills can face doing this again but it was entertaining to watch back, mostly for my faces 🫠

A great day overall. And this was not my worst blind tasting note of the week so I'll take that! Featuring the expert teaching and dulcet tones of 🙏🙏

D3 - W**es of the World: Loire and Burgundy 🇫🇷

What a beautiful day it was. Marginally more evidence of having learnt content and tasted w**es. Maybe my favourite day yet?!

Finally got to meet the wonderful Anne McHale MW in real life! Love a teaching action shot, love a good topography diagram.

This week I became a bit fascinated with the trains?! They were almost hypnotic. And the perfect fluffy clouds 🌥️🫶

Tiny text, I know! Learning about the history of Burgundian vineyards and bonkers land ownership maps like this.

More w**e 🍷A highlight was a 2017 Savigny-lès-Beane from Jean-Jacques Girard. Ten years ago I bought the 2008 vintage of the same premier cru so it felt not quite like a full circle moment, but a nice reminder of where this all started for me!

Lots of useful tips and looking at exam questions - never too early to get practising, I suppose 😬

Diploma Diaries Day 12 ✅

D3 - W**es of the World: Tasting technique review and BORDEAUX 🇫🇷

Two exceptionally unaesthetic pictures for my first day back 🫠 they were the only photos I took before remembering what I wanted to share so the week can only get better from here.

What had already been a very Bordeaux-centric September so far for me continued into a whole day on everything Bordeaux. The start of a heavy red w**e teeth week, to say the least!

But it was great. Super interesting to get back into calibrating tasting technique and blind taste a Right and Left Bank - wildly unsuccessful for me but the learning continues! Thank you MichelleMW for a wonderful first day of D3 🍷

Birthday weekend reasons to be thankful 🙏

🍷 New job this month running tastings at **ecompany . This was the first bottle I purchased as an employee (have bought a couple more since 😳) and it is b e a utiful.

📖 Exam success! Found out a few weeks ago that I passed my D1 and D2 modules of Diploma that I sat back in October. With a shiny gold star for D1 as well ?!?! Now just more crossing of fingers and toes for next results in April.

🎂 Blue skies on my birthday!! I don't know if I'm just feeling it more each year but I'm happy that, amidst the cheersing and churros, the day feels like a celebration of my amazing mum, for everything she did all those years ago, every day since then and long before I came along 💕

32 is basically the same as 22 - but just better, right? 🤩

I’m all about tasting w**es blind.
We start with a simple question: do you like it?! 🍷

From that point, the aim is to make the evening both enjoyable and worthwhile. That often means learning where the w**e comes from, what makes it interesting, and potentially why some of us love it while others might give it a zero out of five...

A belated cheers 🥂 to everyone who came to my Christmas w**e and cheese evening in Radley. Together we raised £365 for the local church building project. It's a small part of a much bigger fundraising effort, but community events like this feel important just for the sake of bringing people together, too.

I am aware that I say this a lot, but I do genuinely feel so lucky to do what I do!

Thank you also to for their generous help in contributing some absolutely delicious cheeses 🧀 and to my dear friend who kept the cheese and w**e (and me) in check on the night 🙏😅
