Summer Isles Foods One of the oldest independently run smokehouses operating out of Scotland. Expert smokers and curers of salmon, fish, meats and cheeses since 1977.

Based on the banks of the Cromarty Firth in Alness, Ross-Shire. Producers of the finest artisan foods from the Highlands of Scotland. Unique amongst salmon smokers is our technique of preparing the sides of salmon. We do it, not by simply dry-salting, but by immersing them in a brine marinade of salt, brown sugar, rum, juniper & black pepper. This creates just a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste

Here at Summer Isles Foods we are fortunate to be amongst some of the finest livestock farms in the country. Such is the Highlands reputation for quality, the area is often referred to as ‘Beef Country’. Unspoilt landscapes of lush grass, clean air and fresh water, coupled with traditional non-intensive farming methods help produce a quality of meat you will not find anywhere else.

All the Beef products you can find on our website are sourced locally from farms in the Moray Firth area. Native breeds of Highland, Aberdeen Angus and Beef Shorthorn are often crossed with large continental breeds, such as Limousin and Charolais to allow for a complimentary combination of muscle and fat cover – producing a wonderful ‘marbling’ packed with flavour and delicate texture.

All Beef is matured for a minimum of 14 days before being expertly cut and vacuum pouched preserve the freshness.

Hello!

There seems to be a bit of confusion surrounding the naming of our Smoked Kippers…

These kippers are named and sold as ‘Breakfast Kippers’ not 'Achiltibuie Kippers' – we no longer market any of our products as being linked to Achiltibuie, since we moved last year.

We have tried to make it clear through all our marketing literature that we are no longer based out of Achiltibuie. Earlier this year, we sent a letter out to all our customers explaining the move from Achiltibuie on the West Coast to Alness in Ross-Shire. Furthermore, we have tried to make clear on our website, catalogue and social media sites that we are now located in Alness.
