Dung beetles are some of nature’s most underrated ecosystem engineers.

By feeding on and burying dung, they recycle nutrients back into the soil, improve soil health, and help reduce livestock parasites naturally. Even tiny phoretic mites hitch rides on dung beetles and prey on parasitic nematodes within dung pats.

Unfortunately, conventional livestock parasite treatments can significantly harm dung beetles and other beneficial insects, disrupting these natural processes.

Work with nature, not against it. supports healthier soils, improves , and reduces the need for harmful medications.

A year ago, the vegetation in this area was dense, scrubby, and almost impenetrable.

Lapwings weren’t nesting here. They were next door where, sadly, eggs and chicks were ploughed up.

This winter, we moved our onto the thick vegetation. No machinery. No chemicals. Just hooves, grazing, and natural disturbance.

They opened it up beautifully.

And now? Lapwings have chosen this ground to nest.

The cattle have been moved to fresh pasture and the birds can raise their young in peace.

Winter is loosening its grip.

Frogs and toads have emerged from their dormancy and made their way back to water, ready for another breeding season here in the Eden Valley.

After spawning, they’ll return to the rough pasture, hedgerows and woodland that surround the pond — a reminder of how interconnected and important every corner of the land really is.
