Calving 2026 done ✔️

Kilda has given us her first born, a bull calf, and both are doing well.

I’m not going to lie, it’s certainly not been the easiest of months. The weather has thrown everything at us, day in, day out. The calves coped well in general, often finding shelter in the strangest of places! The mothers have been exceptional as always, taking such good care of their young.

Here’s to drier days ahead!

📢IMPORTANT MESSAGE📢

We are receiving a huge number of concerns from members who have witnessed members of the public & tourists jump into farmers fields, take selfies with cattle, and even sit on the cattle.

Highland cattle might look gentle, but they’re powerful animals — and especially protective when calving or when young calves are on the ground.

Please don’t enter farmers’ fields or approach them for selfies, they are not selfie props.

It puts you at risk and causes stress to the cattle, particularly mothers who will defend their calves without hesitation.

If you want a close up experience, visit an organised Highland cattle event run by experienced breeders where safety and welfare come first.

First time mother, Seonaig 2nd has given us a beautiful heifer calf. She’s been a very attentive mother. 🥰

There haven’t been many updates this weekend, but that’s certainly not because things have been quiet!🤦‍♀️

Although you wouldn’t think it now, this little rascal had us really worried. He had to be rushed to the vet the other night, as the continuous wet weather conditions meant he had picked up an infection. Thankfully the new vet practice is up and running, so the medical attention he needed was available out of hours 🥰. Otherwise he wouldn’t have made it through the night 😢.

Here’s to more happy days ahead for him and the other new born calves!
