It’s VE Day – and we’re marking in Barnstaple!

At 3pm on 8 May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that Germany had surrendered, bringing an end to nearly six years of war in Europe. Streets across the UK erupted in celebration – and now, 80 years later, we come together once more to reflect, remember, and celebrate.

Join us in Barnstaple from 8–11 May for a packed weekend of remembrance and community spirit:

• Flag raising ceremony
• Commemorative cinema
• Cream tea dances
• Exhibitions
• And a huge VE80 Festival & Street Party at the Barnstaple Pannier Market!

Pannier Marker events are free and part of the Flourishing Barnstaple programme – a North Devon Council initiative funded by the Cultural Development Fund, administered by Arts Council England.
