It's been a quiet few months in the apiary, but spring is showing it's sunny side with a few flying days for the bees recently.

We've been hunkered down in the workshop, getting ready for the new season and making an increase in the number of colonies.

With over 100 boxes to make up, and over 1000 frames to put in them, it's all hands to the glue and clamps to get everything ready for the new season.

It's going to be an exciting year!

When it’s sunny and warm, the bees are out foraging even in the winter. A few plants are still producing pollen, and it’s been quite warm so far so still some brood in there most likely.

Ahhh the Green Woodpecker (Picus Viridis) your cunning knows no bounds. Professor Yaffle would be proud,.

But making holes in our beehives when it's cold to get out the goodies has to stop.

Hopefully this 25mm chicken wire will do the trick!

We attended our first market the Wirksworth artisan market Derbyshire this weekend!

It was amazing to chat with so many lovely people about bees, beekeeping and our products.

We had our new branding put onto some amazing quality labels printed by and I think they look awesome.

Final winter prep in the apiary is just about over....

It's getting much too cold for much 2025 forage, so it's bee-bedtime!

Instead of a warm milky drink, the colonies get a block or two of fondant.

And for a blanket-like warmth, the colonies are topped off by filling around the blocs in the empty super with old bubble wrap and carpet underlay.

Nice and snug.
