Billingshurst Community Larder

Billingshurst Community Larder Billingshurst Community Larder's priority is to prevent food waste and distribute USABLE food to our community.

All adults are welcome to collect free food - children must be accompanied. We are unable to admit Weald School students to the larder. The Billingshurst Community Larder is supported by:

The Billingshurst Community Partnership (BCP) and Billigreen
The Weald School

The group consists of volunteers who help with the following tasks;

Food collection and handling - driving to the retailer or othe

r outlet to collect and load food; taking to our distribution point to unload and store correctly. Food display and distribution - setting up the donated food ready for the public distribution session. Cleaning and ensuring that everything is hygienic and safe. Our volunteers have had Food Handling and Hygiene training and training will be available for future volunteers. Manual Handling training will be given to those who need it. The Larder is registered as a food business and carries appropriate insurance.

Are we bananas!? Last week we had lots of bananas, but find out tomorrow what we have this time! We collect whatever we are given by our supermarket partners and save it from waste. Come and see our haul tomorrow morning! All to be found at the School House by the Weald School main building, through the Leisure Centre Car Park. Bring a bag for your goodies. Earlybirds queue from 9.30 am for first dibs!

Hallo Billingshurst.

In case you have forgotten the Community Larder opens every Weds. Operated fully by volunteers, we celebrate their work in this Volunteer Week.

During the day, the dark art of requesting the food on a variety of apps has been in the hands of our Food Waste Ninjas. Our drivers and collectors work late in the evening collecting and loading cars, unloading, weighing and sorting at School House.

Someone cleans the venue, ready to receive the load. On Tuesday night our socials go out, reminding you to come. Our morning team come in and set out the food in categories reading for our visitors to choose their items. We help to guide you through the process and make sure the food is fairly shared. There is also cleaning, cardboard box flattening, temperature taking (the fridge/freezer not us!), a bit more paperwork, packing up leftovers to freeze or to other outlets. All because we are all passionate about food waste reduction.

It brings all of us a lot of joy to see you there, many regulars and some new. Your support is really important, whatever the reason - so keep coming, sharing the location and information and using up perfectly good food that would otherwise land up in a big hole in the ground or on a tip.

BACK TOMORROW!
