A proposed visitor levy in Anglesey would be collected by accommodation providers from visitors staying overnight in eligible accommodation. The levy would be administered by the Welsh Revenue Authority, with revenues returned to the local area.

Under the legislation, any revenue raised could only be used for destination management and enhancement purposes, including maintaining and improving infrastructure, facilities and services used by visitors and residents.

Tourism is a major part of the Anglesey economy, supporting around 3,500 jobs and contributing approximately £360m annually.

Anglesey County Council is now consulting on whether to introduce a visitor levy on overnight stays, as part of a Wales-wide legislative framework.

Have your say on potential visitor levy for Anglesey

Residents, businesses, visitors and stakeholders are now invited to share their views as Isle of Anglesey County Council launches a public consultation on a possible visitor levy.

The eight‑week consultation begins today (Monday 18 May) and will run until Monday 13 July 2026.
