Hollingdean Real Junk Food Project Cafe We are a Real Junk Food Project Brighton cafe in the heart of Hollingdean. Cooking healthy meals from food waste every Thursday.

Where: The Hollingdean Community Centre, Thompson Road, Hollingdean, Brighton. When: Each Thursday 12.30 - 1.45pm

The concept is a simple one: reduce food waste and food poverty in our city. The Hollingdean Cafe is an offshoot of the already thriving Real Junk Food Project Brighton C.I.C. which work under the charitable network "The Real Junk Food Project", an international network of "pay as you

feel" food waste cafes. By intercepting food waste from local businesses and supermarkets we save edible food from going to landfill and use it to feed people on a donation basis. The pay as you feel concept encourages people to exchange not just their money, but their ideas, time, and creativity for a meal whilst really thinking about the value of our food. The current food system isn't working. Last year over 900, 000 people in the UK regularly relied on food banks, yet we threw away a staggering 18 MILLION tonnes of edible food. That's why our motto is "feed bellies not bins!"

The Hollingdean Cafe allows local people to volunteer, learn about food waste and gain experience in a working kitchen, and provides healthy meals to the community on a pay as you feel basis. All the meals are created using edible food waste, and the bounty found in the food boutique has also been saved from the bin!
