Caperdonich doesn’t exist anymore. The distillery was demolished in 2010, the stills went quiet years before that, and what’s left is only what survived in cask. This one did. Twenty-nine years in a hogshead and it’s come out waxy, tropical and completely unbothered. There aren’t many left to find.

Most distilleries ditched their worm tubs decades ago. Craigellachie didn’t. The spirit is harder to work with, but it tastes like this, and it’s worth the blood sweat and tears. Eighteen years in a hogshead and it’s all dark fruit, heather honey and that deep savoury note you only get from old copper. The Dodgers light hands strike gold again.

Spirited have been on the list for quite a while now so incredibly glad to tick that off the list!

Artful Dodger Dailuaine 2007 / 16YO / Ex-Ardbeg Butt / 57.1% / 50cl

A Dailuaine that clearly picked up a few bad habits along the way.

A finish in an ex-Ardbeg butt has left its mark. There’s smoke where there shouldn’t be, a bit of grit, a bit of swagger. This complimentary cask finish makes for a meaty, oily and saline smoke kissed dram.

It shouldn’t really work. But it absolutely does.

We don’t find casks like this often. When we do, we don’t hang about.
