Ever wondered how we get all that golden honey out of the comb without destroying it?

Say hello to the radial honey extractor!

It’s pretty clever – it uses centrifugal force to gently spin the frames! Once we’ve removed the thin wax cappings, all that delicious honey flies right out of the cells… and trickles down ready for settling and jarring! 🍯

Yesterday we were called out to a tiny cast swarm of honeybees that had already started building comb low down in a tree.

We carefully removed the wax, secured it into an empty frame, popped the queen in place — and the rest of the colony started to followed in.

It’s a very small colony, so they’ll get extra special care from us: plenty of feed and strict wasp protection to help them grow strong and thrive.

Our garden's lavender beds have been alive with the gentle hum of honey bees, and so many other hardworking pollinators too 🐝

They’re making the most of the very last of the lavender nectar as the flowers start to fade. The air is absolutely buzzing – that soft, steady hum is pure magic to witness.

Not quite what the farmer ordered by the pallet load!

We’ve been extremely busy collecting swarms over the last few weeks, so this week brought something totally different – a cut-out!

It looks like they swarmed, couldn’t find a new suitable home and decided to stay put on the pallets.

We carefully cut out every bit of that hard work, secured it into frames with elastic bands, found and caged their queen, and moved the whole lot into a nuc box.

They’ve settled in perfectly already, and will be heading to one of our apiaries in the coming days!
