Tottingworth Farm

Tottingworth Farm Tottingworth Farm is a traditional family run farm in the heart of the High Weald of Sussex.

Tottingworth Farm covers 200 acres of permanent pasture and ancient woodland and supports herds of Limousin, British Blue and Galloway cattle together with a large flock of sheep. The farm was originally purchased in 1957 by Dennis and Ruby Browning and today, some 50 years later it is still in the same family, run by their granddaughter Sarah Wareham assisted by her brother Michael. What makes To

ttingworth so special is the small abattoir that is in the middle of the farm and is central to the operation. Despite competition from the large multi-national corporations, the abattoir remains a success and still operates to serve the farming community throughout the South East. More recently a full butchery operation has been added to the site, which means Tottingworth can supply its customers – be they farmers selling direct, catering, retail or wholesale customers with exactly the cuts, packaging and quantities they require. In order to meet increasing demand for locally produced meat, that can be traced to source, Sarah has been building up the wholesale and retail side of the farm business. A farm shop now means members of the public can buy their meat direct from the source, as well as a range of other local products. So whether it's Romney Marsh lamb, Sussex steaks or pork from the newly created South Downs National Park, Tottingworth can deliver meat to your door that has been raised locally, killed, hung and butchered on the farm. Food miles are kept to an absolute minimum and you can offer your customers a special product.

🍅It’s British Tomato Fortnight! 🍅

And we love tomatoes here at Tottingworth Farm. Whether it’s the selection of British tomatoes in our vegetable section or the delicious Tottingworth tomato sauce on our shelves, life would be a little dull without the wonderful British tomato.

So make sure tomatoes feature on your dinner table this week. We simply love this Smoky Bacon and Tomato Pasta recipe. It’s easy to make, packed with flavour, and perfect for a midweek meal.

Head to the Farm Shop for all the ingredients and give it a try this week.

Here’s the recipe:

400g spaghetti
1 tbsp olive oil
120g smoked streaky bacon sliced into matchsticks
1 onion finely chopped
1 garlic clove finely chopped
2 tsp sweet smoked paprika
2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
Grated parmesan to serve (optional)

Step 1
Bring a large pan of water to the boil and cook the spaghetti following pack instructions. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan and cook the bacon for 3-4 mins until just starting to crisp. Stir in the onion and cook for another 3-4 mins, then add the garlic and smoked paprika, and cook for 1 min more.

Step 2
Pour in the chopped tomatoes, bring to the boil and bubble for about 5 mins until thickened, stirring every so often to stop it catching on the bottom. Drain the pasta and toss with the sauce. Serve with Parmesan, if you like.
