340 million years ago, The Peak District lay beneath tropical lagoons.

Today, the ancient fossils of Winnats Pass still tell the story of this extraordinary past.

Inspired by the tropical fossils of Winnats Pass. Our Women in B**r collaboration brew is finally here and available on our webshop.

If you've been keeping up with the progress of Fossilised Tropics, you'll know that Sophie, our senior brewer has been busy with her team of women brewers from across the country brewing this fresh, tropical 5% Pina Colada NEIPA.

You can expect notes of fresh pineapple, a creamy mouthfeel and distinctive Sabro hops which give a crisp, bright and easy drinking burst of tropical flavour.

If you fancy a tropical escape, why not head over to our webshop and grab yourself a case, it won't be around for long as we've only filled 2263 cans, making it a very limited release.

A percentage of the profits will be donated to Women In B**r, a not-for-profit organisation supporting women within the brewing industry.

Every now and then, we takeover the taps of legendary ale houses. Manchester you're next.

From Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th, we’ll be taking over the taps at Piccadilly Tap in Manchester as part of the Women in B**r Festival, bringing Fossilised Tropics along with a few other Buxton favourites.

There’s a bit of tropical history hidden in the Peak District.

Winnats Pass, just down the road from our brewery, was once beneath a warm, shallow sea. Hard to picture when you’re stood there in the wind, but it’s a good reminder that landscapes have a way of keeping stories long after the world around them has changed.

That’s where the Fossilised Tropics story began.

A 5% Piña Colada NEIPA, brewed in collaboration for Women in B**r. A little nod to the ancient tropics beneath our feet, and a good excuse to bring a bit of that sunshine into a glass.

If you’re around, come by for a pint. It’ll be good to see you.

Ever noticed those incredible beams of sunlight stretching across the hills, cutting through the clouds and lighting up the landscape below? There’s a name for them: crepuscular rays.

They’re created when sunlight streams through gaps in clouds, with dust and moisture in the atmosphere helping make the beams visible. Although the rays appear to fan out from a single point, they’re actually travelling in parallel, it’s perspective that creates the illusion.

The name comes from crepusculum, the Latin word for twilight, when these rays are often seen. But you don’t have to wait for dusk. In the Peak District, shifting weather, dramatic skies and breaks in the cloud can create the perfect conditions for catching them at almost any time of day.

And that’s part of the magic of getting out into the hills. One minute, the landscape is wrapped in cloud; the next, shafts of golden light spill across the valleys, picking out ridgelines and illuminating the trail ahead.

I caught these images on my way into work this morning just on the outskirts of Chesterfield. How could I not pull over? We're so lucky to be up here with all of these incredible natural views. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Much like charting a first ascent, crafting this design began in the dirt.

Sketched by hand, shaped by touch, and guided by the raw texture of the elements.

We didn't just engineer a b**r; we felt our way through its creation, using analogue artistry to capture the true grit of the crag. Rugged, balanced, and forged by patience. This is the liquid testament to the lines we climb and the peaks we chase.

We've been testing textures, colours & materials for Raven Tor and we are very pleased with how it's coming along. Tom, our label designer has gone all out to make sure this design is about as authentic as they come.

The main body of the design has been taken straight from the rock face itself, the red that compliments it came from crushed berries that hang from the trees below the face. Ravens who fly above the Tor cameo alongside items found from bygone climbers. This design is a true tribute to a legendary sweep with every single detail considered. The liquid inside the can? well, it's tasting magnificent. A proper Buxton Impy that will stimulate your every tastebud.

Raven Tor, our new Imperial Stout will be available in keg and can from the end of October. Keep your eyes on our socials for more Raven Tor news, and sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know when it's ready for you to sample.

AXE EDGE

If you’ve been around Buxton for a while, you’ve probably heard of Axe Edge. And this time we're not talking about the b**r.

It’s the big stretch of moorland just outside town. Open, windy, usually a bit wet and one of those places that feels much further from civilisation than it actually is.

It’s also where we got the name for our flagship IPA.

Axe Edge Moor sits above Buxton and out towards the Peak District, with working farms, dry-stone walls and huge views across Derbyshire. On a clear day you can see for miles, all the way towards the Welsh hills. On a less clear day, well… you can see the inside of a cloud.

There’s loads to explore up there too. Roads that make for a good bike ride, walking routes that head out across the moor, and views towards Chrome Hill or more commonly known as 'the Dragon’s Back' in the distance.

Then there are the trees. Densely packed forest, lined in uniform that look like they belong in a fantasy film rather than on the edge of Buxton.

The place has a bit of history about it too. Axe Edge was once crossed by counterfeiters, hawkers and prize fighters. Not exactly your average Sunday walkers.

And you can kind of see why. It’s easy to imagine people disappearing over the moor and not being seen again until they reached the other side.

These days, you’re more likely to see walkers, cyclists, farmers, the occasional hot-air balloon floating over the hills, and a fair few dogs.

But the landscape hasn’t changed much.

It’s still wild, exposed and a little rough around the edges.

So when we needed a name for our flagship IPA, Axe Edge felt right.

Hoppy. Grapefruity. Refreshing. Resinous.

Named after a bit of home.

If you’re ever in Buxton, go and have a look for yourself. It truly is jaw dropping.

There are lot's of reasons to stop.

The view you've walked pat 100 times, a perfectly preserved rock suitable for the mantle piece. Someone shouting "wait, look at this".

There usually are more reasons to stop than there are reasons to hurry.

Adventure isn't always about getting somewhere. Sometimes it's about noticing where you are.

What made you stop this week?

Something worth raising a glass to. 🍻

Our Senior Brewer, Sophie ( ) , has been named Young Brewer of the Year at the Brewers Journal Awards, presented at Brewers Congress in London last week. ( )

Our Production Director, Rob, headed down to London with Sophie for the event, where her hard work, talent and journey through brewing were recognised with this brilliant award.

And honestly, we couldn’t be prouder.

Sophie started her journey with us working in our venues, pouring the b**rs she loved. Before long, she decided she wanted to be on the other side of the bar getting her hands dirty, learning how to make the b**r she’d spent so much time pouring, and becoming part of the brewing team.

Since then, she’s completed her brewing apprenticeship under the guidance of her mentor, Rob Topham, and has gone from strength to strength.

She’s organised and hosted brew days, mentored others, played a huge part in developing b**rs including the legendary Fresh Pulp, and worked on some brilliant collaborations through IWCBD and WIB. She’s also become a fantastic ambassador for Buxton Brewery along the way.

As Rob put it:

“We’re super proud of Sophie for picking up this award! In the last year Sophie has worked to pass her apprenticeship, create great b**rs through the IWCBD and WIB brewing collaborations and be a great ambassador for Buxton Brewery. Well done and a massive cheers from all of the team at Buxton!”

And now she can add Young Brewer of the Year to the list.

So, what’s next?

Well, you may have seen us talking about Fossilised Tropics, a Pina Colada NEIPA brewed by Sophie and a brilliant team of women who just love b**r.

It’ll be officially released at the Women in B**r Festival in Manchester on 20th October, before making its way into our venues and online. (**ruk )

We reckon that’s a pretty good next chapter.

Congratulations, Sophie. You’ve absolutely smashed it. Once again 🍻
