Eat & Sip Market 💙

Eat & Sip Market based on Salisbury road in Cardiff, is on the surface a Chinese supermarket but as you go in they offer home cooked meals with two booths and some bench seats and they have bakery area serving homemade desserts.

We had:
🌶️Cucumber salad with Chilli £4.50
🍚Gyudon Rice- Beef Rolls £12.00
🍜Braised beef noodle soup £10.50
🥟Pan fried homade pork buns £10.80
🥒Chinese Duck Burger £7.50

🧋Classic pearl milk tea £4.30
🍓Strawberry matcha £4.50

They offered an extensive menu, from noodles and rice, homemade bao buns, sides and drinks. They had something for everyone. From start to finish we were made to feel welcome, and we couldn’t fault the food. My favourite was the Gyudon Rice, beef with onions, rice and egg, sounds so simple but was packed with flavour. Another favourite had to be the Chinese duck burger.They had so much ok the menu, with still so much to try, but be mindful when ordering as the portions are huge!!

If you haven’t already Eat & Sip is worth the visit, even if it’s to browse the market or and I definitely recommend ordering from their menu💙

Buns and crusts 🍔🍕

Buns and Crusts is based in Abertillery in the Mount pleasant inn, serving a variety of burgers, pizza, loaded fries, sharing boxes and specials! The menu has something for everyone, and they pride themselves on good quality produce at such good prices.

We had the sharer, however the fries and one of the burgers were upgraded and the pizza was upgraded with toppings. We also had a side of the tacos🌮
The sharer alone was huge, £28 for loaded fries, two classic burgers, chicken and a 7” pizza or garlic bread. Most expensive burger alone was £12.50, but this was absolutely huge!!
The tacos had all the toppings, and tasted homemade and the taco shells and filling stayed in place when I was eating.
You can sit in as it’s based in a rugby club or you can takeaway, I’d recommend messaging to pre-order or order early as they get super busy! Also keep an eye out on their social media for any specials.

Open Friday- Saturday 6pm-9:30pm and Sunday 5pm-8pm.

This has to be my favourite share box I’ve had but not the only reason I’d return as they had such a good variety on the menu, it’s good quality, not greasy, and such good prices.

Goodsheds

I recently visited Goodsheds which I was excited about as I hadn’t been in a while and there were new vendors, although this was an invite I did pay for some of the dishes.
Goodsheds has such a good variety of food vendors, sushi, pizza, gyros, tacos, wings, toasties and Indian food. Also offering desserts such as waffles, ice cream and doughnuts from who cult.
The drinks included coffee, teas, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks with a small offering of cocktails but popular choices.
My favourite the sushi this visit, but I love good sushi, and this was some of the best so fresh, good quality and you could see them making it fresh, definitely be returning for more. This being said we couldn’t fault anything we had, good food, quality and quantity.

We visited later in the evening so only food and drinks were available but food isn’t the only offering at Goodsheds or reason to visit.
You can shop in a variety of shops and they also have a jungle play which is soft play for children.

Goodsheds is a popular spot with indoor and outdoor seating and is an accessible venue, they are also dog friendly!
If you are looking for a day out with good food and drinks then this is your sign to visit Goodsheds.

Edwards- Welsh Butcher new products🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐑*

Edwards is in supermarkets across the UK but prides itself on high quality Welsh meat.
They have launched three new products and I tried out two of them!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Welsh Lamb apricot and honey burgers
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Welsh Lamb Kofta Kebabs
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Welsh Lamb Merguez Sausages

The Burgers and koftas can be found in Tesco and Ocado, whilst the sausages are just Ocado.

The burgers juicy with a hint of sweetness- I served in a bun with feta, pink onions, homemade chimichurri and harissa mayo.
Koftas again were juicy and packed with flavour, I made as a Greek style meal prep, Greek salad, orzo pasta, stuffed peppers and of course the koftas.

Coco’s Coffee and Kitchen🤎

📍Aberdare

A busy couple of months, I have a lot to post and catch up but first a favourite of mine a brunch spot! Cocos based in Aberdare serves bakes, brunch and coffee, they are also based in Merthyr.
We went on a Saturday and I’d recommend booking as we went soon after opening and it was full pretty much straight away!
Cocos offer the perfect mix of sweet and savoury, of course we ordered one of each and shared.
A female run business, starting in Aberdare now expanded, and opening a coffee house in Merthyr. This visit was in Aberdare, I visited there original coffee house, but now having moved to a bigger premises. Cocos coffee and kitchen they now offer brunch, but are also expanding to Cocos by night includes tapas and Sunday lunch. I will definitely be returning for brunch, but also would return to try the small plates and roast they now offer!

Good coffee and food the perfect way to spend my weekend🫶🏼

The Lighthouse🌊

The lighthouse, overlooking Bracelet bay, even on the most cloudy rainy day still had such beautiful views and was cosy from the inside looking out.

We ate at lunch time and it was so busy, although it was Saturday so I recommend booking. I can imagine it being really busy through the summer with the outdoor seating and views, but the rain and windy didn’t stop how busy they were.

To start we had two of the small plates, the halloumi and chicken skewers, the halloumi won for me, perfectly crisp on the outside and soft middle with the sweet and spicy chilli jam. For mains the Lamb Cawl and Chicken Parmigiana. The lamb cawl, perfect winter dish, packed with lamb you wouldn’t have a spoonful without it on, paired with winter vegetables, to dip focaccia although a plain bread would still be lovely has the cawl had so much flavour.
I had the chicken parmigiana, a huge butterflied chicken, with the right amount of tomato and Mozzarella on, sometimes the tomato can overpower but not with this one. The Salad was dressed and tossed in salad dressing not just plain warm salad, and the homemade chips perfectly crisp and fluffy middle, I was full but couldn’t stop eating them!

For drinks we opted for one of their winter menu, perfect for the weather outside, a loaded Bueno hot chocolate. Also opted for a matcha but I love a cold drink no matter the weather. Looking forward to future drink specials as they all sounded so good!

It was so hard to choose, they had such a good variety on the menu, although I wanted to try there pizzas that I have seen online I thought I wanted to try something different. They also serve breakfast, and if you’re not hungry they also do warm drinks and cakes. The perfect spot.

Newport Market

Newport Market has a food hall full of independent street food traders. Before moving to the food hall or after it is worth visiting the surrounding traders that do a variety of services or items and sweet treats- it is worth nothing these are open different times to the food hall.

The food hall has a big seating area, perfect for solo, couple or group trips especially if you can’t decide what to eat it definitely has something for everyone. Each table has a QR code, alternatively you can go up to the traders if you didn’t want to use this! It’s also dog friendly!
For drinks academy offers drinks from coffees, juices and to non alcoholic and alcoholic options. On this occasion we opted for the cocktails and they were so good.

We had food from a variety of traders:

Burger Boyz - a firm favourite of mine and has been in Newport market for a while. We had the monthly special Truffle shuffle, of course if you love truffle then you’ll love this. Just the right amount and smokiness, obviously paired with their classic beef burger.

The Italian Job- Return of the Mac. I’ve tried a few pastas here and they are always cooked well, and taste fresh. I love the variety of sides they offer and the different pastas. I did notice they did such a good lunch menu offer too.

Seven Lucky gods- Korean Fried Chicken and seafood Bento. I love the bento options as I don’t see them very often, they are always seasoned well and full of goodness. We also always have to order the Korean chicken, crispy outer, juicy middle with a kick with each bite.

Bab Haus- Cajun Chicken Tacos, always a winner from Bab Haus. We also love their nachos, they are huge!!

Newport market has a big selection of food traders, there is truly something for everyone!🫶🏼

Truth, a new addition to Sully in Penarth✨

This week I was invited to try Truth in Penarth on the sea situated above Indian restaurant, 1988. I tried a variety of dishes that we were surprised with listed below, I’ve also got a picture of the menu for dishes that aren’t pictured.
I felt the dishes were reasonably priced and I always love the concept of small dishes to share to try a variety of the menu! There were a few dishes I was eyeing up but it’s a good excuse to go back, especially in the summer with the views!!

The dishes pictured , full description on the menu:
Choi pitta lamb
Bombay shots
Cloud naans
Loaded truth
The messy truth
Loaded smash burger
Bombay tacos

Although I enjoyed each dish, my Favourite dishes were the Choi pitta lamb, Bombay shots, loaded truth and Bombay tacos. The Bombay shots were packed with flavour and even took a hit of spice, the loaded truth a take on loaded fries had classic Indian flavours and was such a tasty twist of a dish found on many menus. Lastly the Bombay tacos, the shell still had its crunch and they held together, with jalfrezi style chicken but don’t let that put you off as I didn’t think they were spicy! The messy truth I was unsure about, but I was unsure on the sauce and could’ve maybe had a little less.
As for the drinks they had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails alongside other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. The service was lovely and friendly throughout the visit.

If you’re looking for something a little different and indian small plates, with cocktails or mocktails then add truth to your list!✨
