A few outtakes from going through our hives and deciding what to take for honey. It looks likes aliens have landed and gone straight to our leaders….the bees

Today we cracked open all our hives to check and see what we can take for a honey harvest. It’s been the first warm day without rain for a while! The bees were not happy that we invaded their homes and turned some mansions into bungalows, so we had to smoke them a bit to calm them down. None of them like the idea of a bungalow so they’ll work hard to build up a mansion again

Collecting a small swarm of bees from bush to hive. Always the threat of a sting but it makes you feel so alive! Boxed, transported and given a new place to be. It’s quite an adventure and one for all to see.

There once was an ugly duckling….except it was somewhere else because these 3 new additions to our farm are soooo cute! Meet Jemima, Terry and Richard II (although possibly they are Jeremy, Terri and Rachel II 😂)
Hatched and raised by the children at we have now brought them to Nene Valley Lavender where they will have their own pond and duck life - at the moment they are sharing a barn with our goats until they have grown enough to go to the pond where they will live their best life

Our lavender is bursting in to life. It won’t be long before all this is a carpet of purple

My name is Hen Solo. I am one ten rescued hens Nene Valley Lavender got from Animals in Need, where around 200 of us were given a second chance at life. At only 16 months old, I was considered “retired” from commercial egg production and no longer useful to the farming system. But every creature on Earth deserves compassion, care, and the chance to live in peace.
I was lucky to be adopted into a safe and peaceful free-range home, where I can finally enjoy life as I should — with space to roam, fresh air, sunshine, and kindness every day. It has been wonderful to feel stronger, healthier, and able to show my curious and friendly personality.
Even more amazing, I am still laying beautiful fresh eggs and will be able to do so for a long time yet.
