Last year when I collected my first 25 rescue hens 🥹

I made sure to grab the ones with the least feathers as I wanted to make sure they grew back and were happy and healthy. 🥹❤️‍🩹

It was really sad to see the awful condition they were in, I won’t preach but be mindful these were the hens that lay your “free range” eggs in the supermarket?! 😩

Definitely buy eggs locally if you can! 🐔🥚 I’d much rather eat them from happy hens!

The bees checking out my bee nuc box!!! 🐝

A nuc box (short for a nucleus hive!) is a handy little home for a swarm once you’ve collected them. If there’s a swarm nearby, an empty nuc can be used to safely house them while they settle in and get established.

Once the queen is in the box, the rest of the bees will usually follow her in and cluster around her. From there, they can be left to settle before being moved into a full-sized hive when ready.

Always good to have a nuc or two ready to go when swarm season arrives! 🍯🐝

Cleaning the geese’s pools isn’t just about keeping them looking nice 🪿💦 it’s an important part of keeping them healthy.

Geese use their pools for drinking, bathing, preening and keeping their eyes and nostrils clean. They also produce a LOT of mess, so the water can become dirty very quickly! 💩😂

Regularly changing and cleaning their water daily helps reduce the build-up of bacteria, algae and waste, while giving them clean water to bathe and drink from.

Clean water = Happy Geese! 🪿🤍💦

* 🎨 No artificial colouring is needed, the different kernel colours come from genetics and natural pigmentation.

* 🌈 Each ear can have a unique combination of pink, purple, blue, red, yellow, and cream kernels.

* 🧬 The colours come from different genetic traits expressed in individual kernels.

* 🌽 Colourful corn varieties have been grown and preserved by Indigenous communities for generations.

* 💎 The name “Glass Gem” comes from the kernels’ jewel-like, almost translucent appearance.

Pekin bantam eggs!!! 🐔 those who’ve been here a while will know them as “Evelyn’s fairy eggs!”

Our personal faves as they have a big yolk and a small amount of white! Perfect for hard boiling for salads or for scotch eggs like these!!
