🦗 We had a rather unusual visitor in the office this morning!

We believe this impressive little chap could be a Field Cricket (Gryllus campestris) – a species that is extremely rare in the UK. In the 1980s, fewer than 100 were thought to remain in Britain, confined to a single site in West Sussex. Thanks to conservation and reintroduction programmes, several new colonies have since been established in southern England.

Male Field Crickets are famous for their incredibly loud chirping call, which can be heard up to 100 metres away – something we can definitely vouch for after he spent the morning deafening everyone in the office! We initially thought someone was playing a joke on us all but it was this chap shouting from a corner of the office.

Our unexpected visitor is now safely back outside after causing plenty of excitement!
