We were pleased to contribute to the National Sheep Association magazine where we give a very simple summary of the market being created for Carbon Sequestration projects. We are advising many clients on the part they can play to benefit from the Net Zero drive, whether through Carbon lock-up, habitat restoration, emission reduction or through production of renewable energy.

If you want to discuss further give us a call or an email on [email protected].

What's your thoughts on carbon?

Highland Rural gave an overview in the November edition of the NSA Scotland Newsletter.

The windsock on the Skye Bridge says it all this week as Highland Rural dodge the gales to serve the Gaels. It's the persistent winds in Scotland's Highlands and Islands that are encouraging developers from all over to be courting prime sites for turbine projects, and with increased supply needs and generation comes more cabling too. Whether for a private development or a transmission scheme when someone needs access to your land they will generally meet your professional costs and it costs nothing to ask our advice, not only on financial offers but on access terms and management of works.
Also if you have a site suiting energy projects and particularly wind and solar we have a range of developers we have been working with who are seeking new projects, please drop us an email if you want us to have a look.

This week we’ve been on Shetland enjoying the weather and views. John’s been working here for a while for landowners and crofters affected by the new electricity lines. Pippa has been doing some valuation work for a landowner. Over the next wee while we’ll post some more information on what we’ve been up to and how we might be able to help your rural business.

Highland Rural are delighted to be involved with the Big Highland Auction tomorrow in aid of Highland Hospice and Maggies Highland. The charities respective fund raisers have been seriously affected due to Covid restrictions and the team hope to raise hundreds of thousands to use in the care of people coming from all over our trading area.

We have teamed up with Caithness artist Lucy Wilson Burning Love Gifts & Designs to offer Lot 343, an opportunity to have your own fleece or picked out colours from the artists store washed, carded and spun into a rug and matching cushions, as well as a "wild & woolly" print and chopping board.

This and many other items and unique experiences are available on https://bid.dingwallhighlandmarts.com/auctions/info/id/86/Charity-auction-in-aid-of-Maggie-s-Highland-and-Highland-Hospice

SSEN Transmission Harris–Stornoway 132kV OHL Project - Virtual Exhibition

Highland Rural is currently working for crofters, farmers and landowners on Electricity Transmission and Distribution projects across our area. Owners and occupiers should be aware of these projects and also that their professional advice should in most cases be reimbursed by the developer. With deadlines approaching on two major project consultations we are posting links to the Harris/ Lewis connection which has to have comments returned by 15th October, and Shetland Kergord to Lerwick route where comments are to be returned by 19th October. It's always prudent to raise objections and discuss options as early as possible so please give us a call or drop a PM above if you want to discuss these or any other utilities projects that are already or may be affecting you.

Big week on utilities last week with visits taking in Skye, Lewis, Orkney, Shetland and Caithness. If you are being approached by SSE, BT, Scottish Water or private developers for energy projects or telecoms then keep in mind they are usually obliged to pay for your reasonable professional costs so it's prudent to take advice.
Acting only for owners and occupiers of land we are well placed and have the experience to handle queries anywhere in the North of Scotland.
And we actually quite enjoy it.....

Highland Rural are aware the deadline for the consultation period on the Highland Councils Main Issues Report for the replacement of the Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan ends on the 1st April 2021. The revised plan will shape development allocations and planning policy within the wider Inverness area including Easter Ross, Nairn, Loch Ness and Black Isle areas for up to a decade. Although it is now too late to put forward new sites, understanding any impacts resulting from the proposals in the main issues report is important if you have land and development interests within this area. Although time is running out Highland Rural can assist in providing advice on the Main Issues Report and supporting your interests through making representation to the Main Issues Report. WANTED IN ANGUS
Young farming family looking for land preferably with buildings and house or potential to build. Our client has significant funds available for a small farm ideally within 20 miles of Forfar, from around 30 acres top arable ground to 200 acres of marginal grass. There is a wide scope of property they will consider and could let further ground with option to buy more at a later date. They are experienced in practical farming having already established a small suckler herd and would make good neighbours to someone disposing of a portion of their land. Get in touch in confidence with John on 07837291258.

A96 DUALLING
Latest Developments in A96 dualling; East of Huntly announced.
Our team has experience in Compulsory Purchase and it is imperative at this early design stage that concerns over potential property damage are correctly presented to Transport Scotland. As well as looking at valuations we consider mitigation and continuity measures for rural businesses and households so that the build process recognises the imposition and limits the impact on property owners and occupiers. Value from an agent is not just monetary sums but handling the process in a way that recognises all issues and minimises stress and inconvenience. In the first instance for a confidential discussion call John on 07837291258.

Highland Rural is acting for a Farming family seriously looking to purchase a mixed farm within a 40 mile radius of Dingwall. The farm should be in the region of 350 acres (or more) and a budget of up to £2 million is available. Our clients are willing to wait for the right property to become available, so if you have plans to sell in the future but aren’t quite ready yet, this may also suit. Selling farms privately can reduce costs/commission and ensure privacy. If you think you may have a property of interest, please do not hesitate to contact Pippa Cliff on 07842 725601 or [email protected]

Meet the Team - Nigel Fraser
After time working in Edinburgh and Aberdeenshire, Nigel returned home to Strathglass where he and his family have a tourism and property business which he runs with his wife, with no help from their 3 children. Nigel has worked in the land management sector for around 20 years and aside from his wide experience of rural property management and diversification, Nigel specialises in renewable energy, and now works quite extensively throughout the UK on offshore and onshore wind and solar development. Meet the Team - Pippa
Born and bred in the Borders, Pippa moved to the Highlands in 2008, came to terms with midges and now considers it home. With a degree in Agriculture and Animal Science, and a subsequent Master’s Degree in Rural Estate Management, she has a good base of knowledge upon which she has developed a strong track record in estate management, rural property advice and valuation. Her “can do” attitude and ethos of delivering what she commits to, means she offers a reliable and forward thinking service. She lives on a small holding on the Black Isle where her interests in livestock have flourished, but only if you can saddle it. In addition to her equine-pursuits, Pippa enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs, and loves skiing. Call Pippa today on 07842725601.
