Half term is here — but good food and community connection don’t take a break.

Waste to Plate stays open throughout the school holidays, making sure surplus food is shared, waste is reduced, and everyone has access to great meals.

Because community support shouldn’t stop for half term. 💚

We are open 9-12 3-5 Mon to Fri as usual.

Today our shelves are stocked full with everything from milk to eggs, meat, fish, ready meals , snacks and treats plus the usual fruit, veg, bread and pastries (pastries available in the morning this week too)

Thank you again for featuring our appeal for a new home. We’re still working hard to find a solution. We understand how much this means to the community and are working through all the offers of support and potential new locations.

💚 Behind every number is a person 💚 Yesterday we shared the impact of the Waste to Plate Community Shop at Vital Village. Today, we want to say one thing clearly: This happens because of people. To our 148 volunteers — thank you for showing up in all weathers, week after week. To the local businesses and food partners — thank you for trusting us and backing the community. To everyone who shops with us, donates, shares posts, or tells a neighbour — you are part of this story. This isn’t just about food. It’s about dignity, connection, and a village that looks after its own. If you’re one of the people behind this impact, comment with 💚 or tag someone who should see this. Let’s fill the comments with gratitude and pride.

💚 Thames Ditton — look what WE did in 2025 💚

This is what happens when a community comes together.

In one year, the Waste to Plate Community Shop at Vital Village helped save the Thames Ditton community over £1.25 million, while reducing food waste, cutting carbon, and supporting thousands of local households with dignity.

This didn’t happen because of one organisation.
It happened because volunteers, local businesses, donors, and neighbours chose to act.

Every number in this image represents real people, real meals, and real impact.
If you’ve volunteered, donated, shopped with us, or supported what we do — this belongs to you.

Please share and help us show what’s possible when a village steps up 💚

🥣✨ Warmth in Every Bowl – The Soup-Maker Initiative Continues! ✨🥣

Thanks to the generous funding from , our Soup-Maker Initiative has helped bring warmth, nourishment, and independence to so many Elmbridge residents – from young people juggling exam studies to over-60s struggling to access regular hot meals due to the rising cost of living.

The council funding allowed us not only to provide the soup-makers to individuals, it enabled us to put the infrastructure in place to deliver this initiative efficiently, from sourcing soup makers to training and supporting residents. One participant said:

“It’s changed my life. It’s quick and simple to use, I can get the main ingredients from the Community Shop, and the soups are far better than out of a tin.”

Although the council funding has now ended, we’re thrilled that Waste to Plate will continue the Soup-Maker Initiative for the next 12 months through our own fundraising. That means more delicious soups, smoothies, and smiles to come! 🥕🍎

A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported the project so far – this is only possible because of you. Let’s keep warming hearts and bowls across Elmbridge! ❤️

If you wish to be considered for the 2026 Warmth in a Bowl Soup-Maker Initiative, please get in touch with us via email [email protected]

🎉 A successful launch at Kingston University! 🎉

Last Monday, Waste to Plate proudly launched the Student Pantry pop-up shops at Kingston University, and we couldn’t be happier with the response.

From the moment the doors opened, students showed incredible enthusiasm—making use of affordable, rescued food and helping us tackle food waste together. The energy, conversations, and sense of community made it clear that this initiative is already making a real difference on campus.

A huge thank you to Kingston University and everyone who stopped by to support a more sustainable, accessible food system. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to keep growing the Student Pantry and supporting students where it matters most. 💚
