Winter warmer and ultimate quick savoury snack

My version of the classic Turkish lentil soup and cheese rolls are now available to order.

Not just for Ramadan but for anytime and for anyone. Think, gatherings, starter options, parties or just some home cooked food made with love for yourself and/or your family.

Lentil Soup - Β£6 a portion (serves 2)
Lentil Soup with Lamb - Β£8 a portion (serves 2)

Allergens - celery

The soup will last in the fridge for 2 days or you can freeze it and then defrost when you are ready to eat it. You can top your soup at home with your choice of either croutons, halloumi cubes or roasted aubergine or just enjoy as it is.

Cheese rolls - Β£1 each (minimum order is 12 pieces). Discount will be applied on orders of 40+ pieces.

Allergens - dairy, eggs, wheat

The feta rolls are ready to freeze or keep refrigerated for a day. These can be shallow fried from frozen or brushed with oil and air fried until golden brown, which takes minutes.

DM me to order and both items are collection only from Ealing, London W13.

Spiced grape and almond loaf cake

Recipe courtesy of the December issue of magazine. A joint effort along with πŸ₯°β€οΈ

This cake is very unusual, definitely not like anything I’ve ever tried before. The flavours slowly grow on you and pair well with a winter warmer herbal tea or a hot mug of sorrel and ginger.

😲 This Simple Turkish Soup Will Change Your Winter!

3 cups red lentils, rinsed
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
5 medium to large garlic cloves, crushed
Small thumb size ginger, grated (optional)
1.5 tsp pul biber
3 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
3/4 tsp turmeric (optional)
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 vegetable or chicken stock cube
1 large vine tomato, deseeded and chopped

Add the olive oil into a stock pot or large pan and add the garlic cloves first to flavour the oil. After 30 seconds add the spices, lentils, tomato and mix this well until the stock cube dissolves. Add the water.

11 cups boiled water

Bring to the boil, cover and turn right down to a simmer for 30mins. Stir at least twice in this time to prevent sticking.

Heat 1.5 tsp oil in a little frying pan over a small flame
Add 2 tsp dried mint
Add 1.5 tsp pul biber

Sizzle the above for about 10 seconds and add to the pan along with:

Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp ground cumin

Heat doe 5mins more and taste. Add salt to taste if required and finish with chopped parsley. Serve right away in bowls and drizzle over some evoo.

I add ginger and turmeric when anyone in the home is unwell but it’s not usually used in this Turkish soup.

To change this basic version up, you can add one of the following:

Shredded leftover lamb
Shredded leftover chicken
Halloumi cubes
Croutons
Long grain rice (add this in the last 15mins of cooking time)
Orzo (add this in the last 15mins of cooking time)

Exceptional Sri Lankan cuisine is complemented by service that goes the extra mile. Come discover your new favorite spot!

The restaurant is about a 8-10min walk from Clapham Junction station.

The mango lassi and the desi spritz were not filmed but honestly they were so good. The lassi was thick, tangy and full of mango flavour and the spritz was delicately refreshing made with a green mango syrup and mint leaves.

This is an upmarket restaurant and one curry could easily serve one person if eating that alone or shared between two if eating alongside another shared dish.

The masala dosa was equally as good and both the dosas we ordered were stuffed to the edge with filling and flavoured to perfection that even mum agreed!! One dosa is quite filling if you’re eating that alone along with a starter. We shared our chilli cheese one and shared the chicken curry too.

The service was super quick and friendly, Sheily was a great host and we did not have to wait too long for our food.

When I go again, I’ll definitely tuck into their mutton and lamb dishes!

5/5 for food, service and atmosphere
Price range Β£20-30 per person

Somali lamb suqaar with baaris, salad and basbaas.

Lamb shanks were marinated with curry powder, garam masala, paprika, sat and pepper before being slow cooked until dal of the bone tender.

While that cooked, a veggie sauce with carrots and potatoes was slow cooked until the tomatoes in the sauce reduced down. This was also flavoured with the same spices but also garlic, ginger and cardamom.

Next was the rice, a lovely fragrant rice with whole spices to which I added green beans and sweetcorn. This was all assembled together and finished with a side salad and a little dollops of basbaas (green chilli chutney πŸ”₯😜).

Every mouthful just left you wanting more and the recipe was courtesy of a neighbour. I just switched it up by cooking the lamb separately instead of in the veggie sauce. That basbaa though! Not for the faint hearted, packed with heat which in small doses added such a lovely additional flavour to the whole dish. The only missing side was the banana and only because I had ran out of them! That would have given the sweetness to the dish to balance all the savoury fragrant flavours. Just means I’ll have to make it again one day soon! πŸ˜›πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ€€πŸ€€πŸ€€πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜
