We are an Edinburgh based specialist coffee roastery and equipment business started through a love of great coffee and a fascination with quality kit. The creation of Machina, was inspired by the Edinburgh’s artisan coffee scene which has really exploded in the last 10 years, along with inspiring visits to the San Francisco, LA, Wellington, Tokyo and London coffee scenes. We’ve done a huge amount of research into the best kit out there and are delighted to have introduced some of the best commercial grade equipment to homes and cafes across the UK.

Meet Michael! 🔧

Part of the Machina team since 2013, Michael joined to lead the technical side of the business, working side-by-side with Steve from day one.

13 caffeine-fuelled years later, he’s still a coffee die-hard who loves equipment (taking things apart and putting them back together again), keeping customers up and running, and of course, enjoying cabaret and singing show tunes in his spare time.

He’s your go-to guy to fix your machine - then make a perfect flat white with it!

If you’ve taken a stroll through Marchmont lately, you will have admired the beautiful corner shop with massive windows and a welcoming vibe. That’s Starter Culture, an elevated cheese, w**e, and food space that recently expanded from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We sat down with the founder, Rachna Dheer, to hear about her journey from street food to storefronts, the philosophy behind the brand, and Starter Culture’s expansion to Edinburgh.

Having already welcomed the local community with a series of brilliant events, Starter Culture is quickly becoming a neighbourhood favourite for both locals and visitors alike. We’re excited to see how the space continues to evolve, with even more great food, w**e, and community experiences to come.

With over 10 years of experience in coffee and hospitality, she brings a wealth of knowledge, a calm, pragmatic approach and a knack for keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Whether she's keeping the team up to speed, solving problems or lending a helping hand, she's the person everyone can count on.

Having owned and run an independent café herself, Paulina understands the industry from every angle, making her an incredible asset to both our team and our customers.

Happy first birthday to Filmhouse Edinburgh! After an incredible wave of community love brought this iconic cinema back to life, the team has spent the last year doing what they do best: bringing people together through a shared love of film.

From projectionists running rare 70mm prints to the team behind the bar, it’s a space run on passion and dedication. We’re incredibly proud to be their coffee partner, serving up Index espresso alongside great independent cinema.
