Machina Speciality Coffee Roasters and Equipment Specialists

We are an Edinburgh based specialist coffee roastery and equipment business started through a love of great coffee and a fascination with quality kit. The creation of Machina, was inspired by the Edinburgh’s artisan coffee scene which has really exploded in the last 10 years, along with inspiring visits to the San Francisco, LA, Wellington, Tokyo and London coffee scenes. We’ve done a huge amount

of research into the best kit out there and are delighted to have introduced some of the best commercial grade equipment to homes and cafes across the UK.

Join us for a very special cupping with ☕️

We’re hosting founder and director, Martin Rowland, at Machina Marchmont for a guided tasting of exceptional Ugandan specialty coffees.

We love roasting their lots and seeing the incredible work they do on the ground in the Rwenzori Region, where they collaborate with local farming communities to improve yields, boost incomes, and drive sustainable, B Corp-certified impact. This is a rare chance to taste their coffees and hear the story straight from the source.

🎟️ Tickets are free, everyone’s welcome - sign up at the link in our bio. We’d love to see you there.

Teviot has been a fixture of Edinburgh life since 1889, holding the proud title of the world’s oldest purpose-built student union. After a massive, much-anticipated renovation, its doors are back open. While it’s steeped in university history, one of the best things about the redesign is that it is a space built for everyone, students and Edinburgh locals alike.

We caught up with Courtney McNair, Teviot’s Deputy Venue Operations Manager, to talk about what it takes to bring a 130-year-old landmark back to life, the comforting predictability coffee brings to an all-day neighbourhood spot, and the best spots to hide out with a flat white in the sun.

Our showroom and training hub is officially open! ✨

Beyond sourcing and roasting, we care about every element that goes into an excellent coffee - the equipment, baristas, and craft that brings it all together. Our new showroom is designed to celebrate that.

It’s a dedicated hub for a range of equipment testing (featuring and ) and a space for barista teams to train on the same set ups they use, away from the noise of a busy cafe.

Check out our recent feature in (link in bio) to hear the story behind the space, and scroll through to get a look at the new setup.

We’re stoked to share it with you ☕️

The latest in our Behind the Bar series had us popping our wellies on and heading out to to hear the story behind their mission to restore a family legacy through regenerative farming.

In 2016, the Buchanan-Smith brothers stepped in to take on the family farm, starting from scratch with a fully DIY spirit and a commitment to older, more natural ways of working the land.

Fast forward to today, and The Free Company has become a Green Michelin-starred blueprint for a circular food system. On a farm where the menu is dictated by the morning’s harvest, every element must earn its place on the table - including the coffee.

We’re proud to supply the coffee for their dining room, seeing it as the final note in an experience that prioritises provenance above all else. As Operations Manager Liam Flaherty puts it: “If we’re asking people to think about where their food comes from, it makes sense that the same applies to what’s in the cup.”

, you were something else! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We’re just catching our breath after an incredible weekend. The atmosphere was massive, and it was brilliant to see so many familiar faces and meet plenty of new ones.

A total privilege to be in the thick of it, pulling shots and talking about what we love with such an engaged crowd. Scotland’s coffee scene is world-class, and spending the weekend surrounded by that level of passion really drives home why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a coffee or a chat. We’re back in the roastery with tired feet but very full hearts.

See you next time!
