A Taste of the South West ❤️

[Ad-PR invite] Still pinching myself at having been invited to join a gorgeous Taste of the South West Long Table Supper at the recently refurbished with a gang of lovely people.

Not only is the Pedn Olva in a stunning spot, it’s been done up beautifully with gorgeous rooms, restaurant, bar and expansive terraces. I headed over for a special dinner overlooking Porthminster Beach to showcase some of the great local suppliers they work with to turn out some pretty fabulous food, as well as marking 175 years of which is pretty darn impressive.

A bespoke tasting menu from head chef Tom Pryce, paired with different serves from . A beautiful table, beautiful views, beautiful food and drink and the chance to meet some fabulous people from fellow Cornwall creators to local producers and the Pedn Olva team.

Just a wonderful evening - finished with falling asleep in one of the gorgeous rooms to the sound of the sea. More on the staying over experience but needless to say it’s one for your list. Or at least book in for lunch or dinner or drinks in the terrace - I know I will be.

Food and drink finds on the Isle of Wight.

And yes, we barely scratched the surface - I have already seen so so many more places I want to go to across the island, but these might start your list off. I honestly had no idea the IOW was so good for food. Fresh seafood, obvs. But inventive dishes, great produce, nice independent places, and a fair degree of understated-ness (is that a word?). It’s a place that’s quietly doing great stuff, and basically we all should go 🤗

Sea Shanty Saturday 🏴‍☠️ 🎶 🍻 🍹

All the fun with the gang at - literally SO much to see and do, we only ever scratch the surface so we’ll just have to keep coming every year until we’ve tried every stage, every venue, seen every shanty group, and visited every bar and restaurant and eaten everything.

But 2026 was pretty fab. Made it to and (which I think may become a fave spot this summer). Tootled around, found a spot at to watch a group on the boat. Down to Events Square to finish off proceedings with oysters at and a rendition of Cornwall My Home before a bit of carnage at and home for some rest. Tip of the iceberg of what is rapidly becoming one of my fave events of the year 🤗

Coming to Falmouth for the Sea Shanty Festival and wondering where to go for food and drink?

Here’s a few ideas….

Obviously there are a tonne of options laid on at but if you want to explore, escape the crowds, or take advantage of being in a fab place for food and drink to get booked in somewhere, here are a few suggestions. This list is by no means exhaustive and only include places I’ve actually been to, but there are plenty more on my ever-growing list that you could try and I’m happy to suggest if you need more options (only if you promise to send your suggestions to me 🥰).

Feel so lucky to live in such a foodie place that also happens to have such unique events. Who’s shanty’ing? 🙌🙌 🍻 🎶 🏴‍☠️

Calling all fish fans…

[Ad-Invite] If you’re in the south-west and happen to love fish, you need to get to . Founded by , it serves fresh sustainable seafood at its restaurants but also to you at home thanks to next-day delivery.

I’ve been to the Brixham restaurant before and loved it, and this time went to Plymouth. The interiors are always great but it’s the fish you’re here for. The menu has some regular options but the real joy is the menu of day boat fish that they go through to tell you what’s come in that day and therefore available. Plenty of possibilities and often some cooked in two different ways to add choice.

Predictably each time I’ve been the fish is cooked well. They also do bottomless fries which is rather lovely. My latest visit was while I was on a trip trying out the .west.660 road trip so this is yet another reminder that a) it might be the most foodie road trip in the UK, and b) you should go and read my blog post on www.eatwithellen.com

The Thai restaurant in London everyone talks about….

I never know where to eat in London so when I meet my pal she basically chooses for us - and always knows the places to go. Her latest choice was - a Thai restaurant right by Borough Market that lots of people say is great. It’s a busy, frenetic place, with the same kind of open kitchen that reminded me of .

The dishes are southern Thai so slightly different to the bog standard small town Thai food I’m used to (yes it’s sacrilege that I haven’t been educated by eating with you 🙈 i promise to correct that asap 😬). I actually loved the fragrant, fiery flavours. We ordered all sorts, from slow-cooked meats to skewers cooked on fire, fresh farm greens, and their own take on mango and sticky rice to finish.

The atmosphere is buzzy and busy, which suits the kind of place we like when we have a chaotic catch up (as does the wine list and cocktails 🍸 ) and the staff were efficient. I am no expert on Thai food, but had a great time and really enjoyed it. If anything, it’s inspired me to educate myself a bit more when it comes to Thai food.
