Despite my protestations, summer appears to have deserted me. And mizzle and grey skies immediately has me going for comfort food. So here’s a throwback to a lovely hearty lunch at Rosello Italian Restaurant in Albrighton earlier this year. Big heaps of pasta. Classics like liver, cooked decently. And all the Italian desserts. It’s a nice spot, the staff are super friendly and it’s everything you’d want from a local Italian. Which is also what I’d like right now.

That’ll teach me to go against the grain when everyone says summer’s done 🫣🙈

CARFEST 2026 OVER & OUT 🙌

One of my fave weekends of the year and maybe the best yet. I say it every year but hosting my very own stage at really is a pinch-me moment. This year’s Cook’s Companion stage was an utter delight - every single demo people could get hands-on and make stuff, try stuff, take stuff away - from cupcakes to sauerkraut, truffles sugar paste models, Vietnamese summer rolls, flatbreads, brownie sundaes and more. We had amazing chefs and cooks, a wonderful team and a brilliant audience. Seeing some people come back again and again through the weekend was testament to how much fun it was, and the atmosphere was just wonderful.

As if the days weren’t fun enough, by night we caught up with our CarFest mates, listened to epic music, and danced, sang, and met some pretty inspiring people doing great stuff for amazing causes.

Sorry if you’re bored. Gotta let a girl do her over-excitement bit occasionally and I just genuinely can’t believe I get to do stuff like this and call it work 🤗 Hope you all had a fab Bank Holiday filled with food and fun 🤩

Finding it virtually impossible to resist a trip to Kelp Canteen when the sun’s shining and we’re in Falmouth. It’s always great but the last visit we had the mackerel bun and it was stupendous. Soft bread, pesto, cheese, fresh mackerel. Lush. One for your list when you’re in Fal, even if you just have their anchovies and an oyster :-)

TAVERNA KEFALONIA

My pal LOUISE tied the knot earlier this year in lovely Kefalonia but sadly we couldn’t make it. So when we finally got a date in to rendezvous on a camping trip, we decided to bring a bit of Kefalonia to Cornwall and surprise them with our own taverna.

Obviously the weather didn’t play ball with Greek-style weather but we refused to let it stop the Greek feast.

On the menu:
:: Champagne and olives to start
:: Warm pitta with feta two ways - whipped and baked - and tzatziki
:: Butterflied leg of lamb with Kefalonian style potatoes and Greek salad
:: Greek yoghurt with honey and toasted pistachios (which we didn’t get to because we were too full 🤪)

It was actually perfect for a camping meal with lots able to be prepped at home, from marinating the lamb to part-cooking the potatoes and doing all the dips. Which just left some finishing off, cooking the lamb on the Roadii (yes we asked permission), popping the champers and pouring the wine.

A gorgeous evening celebrating our friends in a super spot with good food 🫶

THE NICI, NEWQUAY

[Ad-Invite] Ran off to Newquay to check out its newest hotel. THE NICI is rather impressive - gorgeous views, a stunning refurb, lovely pool and a massive terrace. The decor is lovely with loads of little touches that aim to transport you to the Italian Riviera. There’s tonnes to do from activities to the spa and a really quite well equipped gym. The menu is fairly simple and crowd-pleasing - think pizzas, pasta etc. I think the restaurant’s still finding its feet a bit, which is no easy task during peak holiday season, but breakfast was lovely and I’ve since been back for their Caesar salad made at the table which is a bit of fun and I’ve got no doubt they’ll get in their groove quickly.

Definitely a great addition for Newquay and really beautifully done. Good for an overnight break, or even just drinks on the terrace overlooking the sea. 🌊

The Truro Food Festival is returning to Lemon Quay on Wed 23 - Sun 27 Sept to celebrate Cornwall’s food and drink. It will be open 9am to 5pm Wed and Thurs, 9am to 6pm Fri and Sat, plus Sun 10am to 4pm.

The festival is set to feature award-winning producers and top Cornish chefs, along with live music.

If you’re a food and drink business in the city centre, your business would be promoted within the Truro Food Festive programme if you are hosting relevant activities within your venue between Wed 23 and Sun 27 Sep. Please email the event organiser [email protected] with details of:
- a food or drink event within your premises (e.g. a tasting session, a feast night)
- a food or drink promotion in store (e.g. a special menu)
- any live music or entertainment at your venue, during or ideally after food festival opening times, to reach visitors already in Truro. This can be an already planned event and does not need to be food or drink related.

The Truro Food Festival is organised by Cornwall Event Cabins in partnership with Truro Farmers Market.
