Just the one left to calf now, Gillian here with her boy by Loarin of Glengorm, she had a pair of lovely heifers by him last year.

Of course even better when there's sheep grazing along side these beasts πŸ‚πŸ‘πŸ‚πŸ‘πŸ‘

The Rewilding Mistake: Why This Valley Still Needs Her
An old, rust-coloured Highland cow stands behind a brand-new exclusion fence, her breath pluming in the damp April air as she looks back at the upland valley she grazed for forty years.

"I broke the hard earth so the birds could nest, and I grazed the tall grass so they could see the fox," she rumbles softly, watching the green stems already growing thick. "You call it 'rewilding' to send me away, but without my heavy hooves, this valley will soon fall silent."

We often assume that authentic "rewilding" requires removing all livestock to let nature heal. In reality, traditional, low-intensity cattle grazing is the absolute engine of upland biodiversity.

Right now, in early April, ground-nesting waders like Curlews and Lapwings are returning to breed. They fundamentally rely on the exact mosaic of short turf, tussocks, and bare earth created by these ancient breeds to hide their chicks and spot predators. When well-meaning grants evict herds like hers to leave the land "untouched," rank grass dominates within just three years. The waders are completely locked out of their breeding grounds.

These iconic species co-evolved with grazing pressure. A landscape without its large herbivores isn't rewilded; it is just abandoned.

Support conservation projects that include traditional grazing. Bring back the herds, and let the valley sing again.

A bit of outcome in this young fellow, 8 months of age by Loarin of Glengorm out of Solas Molach the mother of the 23,000gns Mottistone bull and our own 15,000gns bull. Hopefully he'll get a few of our own cows next year and then if he looks up to it a wee trip to Oban the following year!

What a fantastic experience Oban never fails! We exceeded all our expectations in the show ring with our two 3 year old heifers winning the champion pairs and then Nighean Ruadh 2nd of Luruha going on to win the overall female champion πŸ†
They then went and strutted their stuff in the sale ring today both so expertly presented by Dexter and Carolyn Logan whom without we would never manage to reach the dizzy heights that we have done. Our champion caught the eye of brothers Thomas and Glen Muirhead who are taking big strides in the reintroduction of their Grandfather's very renound Corriemuckloch Fold. They put the final bid on @ 5000gns. It is absolutely great to see and we feel very chuffed that they chose a Luruha bred heifer to start the ball rolling, we really do wish them all the best and look forward to seeing what these two very able stockmen will do in the future years. They were outgunned on our second heifer being under bidders to my friend Ash Michael Malia buying another Luruha heifer for his Mahuruco Highlands their original purchase for their fold was a yearling heifer bought privately back in covid time. This time they upped the bar by splashing out 6500gns on this cracking beast.
The highlight of the day for many was to see Iain Mackay selling his super bull at a staggering 34,000gns , well done indeed and great to see πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

It's been a full day of Heilan Coos!
Started off this morning with these two wee fellows. Old Katie Morag 7th of Blairlogan and Furan Beathag 2nd of Luruha and then delivered our two heifers up to Oban.
Good to get this picture from Dexter Logan letting me see they're well settled in, they're in safe hands between him and Carolyn Logan over the weekendπŸ‘
