Its a bit windy out there. After closely monitoring the forecast, we took the decision a few days ago to be closed today. The apple pressing machine will remain closed and secure throughout the storm.

There will be no drop off of apples or juice collection today either.

3 batches of apple juice and 3 very different colours!
Our apple juice contains 100% apple juice with no additives so the colour of the drink really depends on the apples we put in. Todays batch is particularly pink! We don't have a consistent product but we have a 100% natural product.

Todays juice contains a proportion of Red devil apples which have a juicy red flesh giving the juice it's pink tones.

October holidays mean work when your parents have an apple juice business! Tattie holidays are renamed apple holidays in our house! Marshall did a grand job on the capper machine yesterday!
Still taking apples in for pressing with about a 2 week turnaround at the moment.

I have really enjoyed learning about the history and heritage of all the apple varieties we are receiving for pressing. Duffus Estate has a fascinating range of trees. I love how we can turn their apples into a product they can sell on their estate at their coffee spots and camp site. They also put their own branded apple juice in their welcome hampers for their self catered accommodation. Real local province and authenticity.

On a seperate note Caroline Dunbar had the coolest vintage apple crates ever!

For a small printing cost of £1 we can print your own personalised label. Why not make a few different designs for gifts for specific people.

While Richard, Callum and Phoebe were flat out making bottles of juice Bill and I were busy packing orders ready for collection!

If you are planning picking up your juice order on Sunday please let us know by 6pm on Saturday. It is our Farmers market on Sunday and we will be busier than normal and need to be prepared and have all orders being collected moved to the front of house.

Bring your apples to Elgin's Orchard at Byres Farm and we can turn your apples into juice.

Drop off Apples between 10am and 4pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

You can drop off as many apples as you have. Make sure your mix is 90% eating apples but you can bulk it out with 10% cookers to give a balanced juice. A rough guide is a supermarket crate usually yields 10 x 750ml bottles of juice with a 2 year shelf life!

Why not get a day ticket to Byres Farm while you are here and enjoy our apple festival activities and watch the apple juice being made from our safe viewing area (no production on a saturday).
Or maybe grab a coffee and enjoy one of our circular walks on the farm.
