Sid knows the drill well. When you think you’re on your way home after feeding the cattle but Adrian passes a neighbour and then switches off the engine - best get comfortable, chill out and enjoy the view for 20 minutes. 😂

Adrian trimmed the thistles and nettles around the water trough. The calves watched his every move. I think this is what they were saying to each other -
“What’s he doing?”
“Don’t take your eyes off the human.”
“I’m brave, I’ll get a closer look.”
“Huh, tastes just the same as before.”
What do you think they are saying.

Yesterday, while checking the fences, we had a lovely surprise — the biggest bird we occasionally see on the farm suddenly lifted off and flew up just ahead of us. 🪶

A beautiful heron!

We think he is attracted to this corner of the farm by our spring-fed stream that is still running. With water in such short supply at the moment, it’s probably proving yo be a rather useful food source for him.

One of the best things about feeding the cattle and checking them each day is the wildlife we come across along the way. Our farm isn’t just home to the cattle — it’s a wonderful space shared with all sorts of creatures, each making the most of what the farm has to offer. ❤️🌿

And yesterday, it was the heron’s turn to make an appearance.

There’s nothing like a comforting Sunday roast as the weather gets cooler. Then if you’re lucky there is some cold beef left for sandwiches. What’s your favourite joint of beef?

Lovely sight this morning. Can’t remember when we last saw puddles in the farmyard. Hope this is the start of drought recovery.

This is a simple comparison of how much we are having to feed the cattle now compared to last summer. There’s even a bit of green visible in last year’s photos! Though we did start feeding earlier last year.
