It’s a good time of the year to be busy in the workshop. Here are some nice pieces of larch getting planed and seasoned in a jig. This creates the slight bend in the trellis that make up the walls of the yurts. All our yurts are totally unique and hand crafted right here at Black Isle Yurts!

I'm delighted that plans for offering aerial 3D modelling are getting closer.

Having worked up several proof of concept models over the last year, the stumbling block has always been the (very) high cost of the specialist software required to produce the final output.

Good news therefore to hear that my recent application for grant funding for the software has been successful. This now puts me in the position of being able to produce meaningful 3D modelling outputs, rather than the production of screenshot samples.

Black Isle Yurts - you are top of the list and we can now finalise plans for the interpretive, interactive topographic model of your site, hopefully for the start of this season.

Over the last few months, I've been running a side project, looking at the development of 3D modelling using drones.

Thanks to Black Isle Yurts who have been extremely helpful in supporting the project, the final stages are now in place.
Don't you just love the idea of a retreat? This year our sights were set on retreating to the Black Isle Yurts, just south of Cromarty on the stunning coastline of the Black Isle. The yurts are perched in peaceful woodland on the cliff top above a quiet beach. The well-equipped Hub provides wifi and hot showers, while a wood-burning stove and a comfy bed completed the glamping credentials🏕️.

Where do you go to escape from it all? Or do you have a holiday business that you'd like to share? Get in touch with us at Root and Branch to find out more [email protected]

I am staying in August and was wondering about the lighting, it says hand or solar powered lighting how does this work? Also should I bring a camping lantern for outside at night
Chanonry Point and Fort George - 1km apart by sea but 40km by road.
Distinctive spits of land, they are part of the raised beach geology of the Inner Moray Firth and of course Fort George is heavily bound up in the history of the Jacobite Rebellion. They are also are great places for spotting dolphins too...!!

There is a wonderful viewpoint at Eathie on the southern side of the Black Isle, which looks down onto Chanonry and Fort George and was my venue for taking the photographs below.

And if you're interested in great places to stay on that part of the Black Isle, I can thoroughly recommend Firth View Bed and Breakfast, Cromarty, Fortrose Bay Campsite and Black Isle Yurts. Hopefully we will see them open once more, before too long.
