7D6N NC500 ITINERARY (Day 3) 🚐 A Campervan Road Trip Guide in Scotland

Day 3 starting off with an adrenaline pumping activity! We went to the Golden Eagle Zipline () to zipline over the most beautiful secluded beach nearby Durness. It’s a different and fun activity for thrill seekers!

Afterward we built up an appetite so headed over to for a taste of their popular Haggis Cheese toastie, which I can confirm was absolutely the best I’ve had in Scotland! I wish they were closer to Glasgow because I crave that toastie ALL THE TIME

We then headed to Smoo Cave, a famous spot on the NC500 with an entrance that’s 50 feet tall and a wooden walkway leading to a freshwater cave. For those of you who are adrenaline junkies, there is a tour by that takes you into the cave for an excursion.

Last stop for the day was Durness Beach, which was conveniently connected to the campsite we were staying at for the night called Sango Sands Oasis. We settled in then hung out at the beach, went for a freezing cold dip and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery.

That was our Day 3 exploring the north coast of mainland Scotland, please stay tuned for Day 4 📌

7D6N NC500 ITINERARY (Day 2) 🚐 A Campervan Road Trip Guide in Scotland

Day 2 started off with a trip to one of my favourite castles in Scotland, 🏰 Dunrobin Castle is reminiscent of a French chateau with lots of Baroque influence. I love the intricate, ornamental details of each room in the castle, and the perfectly manicured garden too. Definitely a must-visit!

Next up, we headed to Whaligoe Steps, which are steps built on the edge of a cliff and acted as a pathway to an old harbour where fisherwomen used to dive for fish to sell in Wick. There are 377 steps, which makes it quite a steep journey! Can you imagine having to lug baskets of fish up the steps? 😵

Afterwards, we drove over to the Duncansby Sea Stacks which are 400 million year old red sandstone rock formations that emerged from the sea. A stunning example of wild natural Scottish landscape!

Our last stop was the tippy top of Britain, John O’Groats, where you can snap photos of yourself with the iconic sign.

We then spent the night at our 2nd campsite, !

That was our jam-packed Day 2, please stay tuned for Day 3 📌

7D6N NC500 ITINERARY (Day 1) 🚐 A Campervan Road Trip Guide in Scotland

Welcome to my NC500 mini-series, where I showcase the best way to travel, sites to see and things to eat along the NC500 in 7 days and 6 nights.

Day 1 started off collecting our campervan from in Glasgow before heading out to our first campsite in Portmahomack!

The journey would take between 4-5 hours long so we decided to make a pitstop at the ‘Harrods of the Highlands’, 🛍️

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The House of Bruar is a well known department store located in the highlands housing high quality Scottish clothes, outdoor equipment and produce. Here, you can find many local brands that make the perfect souvenir.

We popped by to have a wee mooch and had lunch at the chippy. Fraser went for a classic Fish Supper which he found surprisingly delicious whilst I splurged and went for a Half Lobster with Chip, which was a whopping £40! 😱 It was worth a proper treat though because the lobster was buttery, succulent and so tasty!

Afterwards, we got back on the road and headed to our first stop, Portmahomack where we stayed for the night at the Portmahomack Campsite. This was located near the village by a secluded yet gorgeous beach, where you can experience the most picturesque sunset ever!

That was our fantastic, slower paced start to our week-long travels, Day 1 of this 7D6N NC500 itinerary! Stay tuned for Day 2 📌
