UK Supermarkets vs Sicilian Supermarkets 🇬🇧🇮🇹

Spend a bit of time in a Sicilian supermarket and you can’t help but notice the difference.

In Sicily, food still feels connected to the land and the people who produce it. You’ll find local fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, cheese, meat, fish and products made by smaller local producers. There’s often a real sense of where your food has come from.

Then you come back to a UK supermarket and the contrast can be quite shocking. Huge aisles filled with highly processed, mass-produced products, long ingredient lists and food that can travel hundreds or even thousands of miles before it reaches your plate.

We’ve made food convenient, but somewhere along the way we’ve lost that connection with the people who actually produce it.

That’s exactly why we love supporting our local farmers, producers and markets. 🧑‍🌾❤️ We want to know who made it, where it came from and what we’re actually buying.

Sicily reminds us that food doesn’t need to be complicated. Fresh, local, seasonal and made with good ingredients. 🇮🇹

Maybe the UK could learn a thing or two from Sicily. ❤️

🇮🇹 WE'RE OFF TO SICILY! 🇮🇹

Next week we are heading back to Sicily, and this time I’ve got a little mission… 👀

We are looking to find small, family-run Sicilian producers making amazing, authentic products that we can potentially start importing back to the UK for you all to enjoy. 🇮🇹❤️🇬🇧

I already sell things like Sicilian extra virgin olive oil, truffle products, pasta, passata, honey, cannoli and other Sicilian favourites, but I want to bring something NEW to the range.

So we want to hear from YOU! 👇

What Sicilian/Italian products would you love to see me start selling that I don’t currently offer?

Maybe there’s something you’ve tried on holiday that you simply can’t get here… or a particular Sicilian speciality you’d love to have delivered to your door.

I’m particularly interested in finding genuine small family producers, rather than mass-produced products, so I can bring you something a little different and support the families actually making it.

A little bit of downtime, a whole lot of magic! ✨

This weekend we took some much-needed time out, packed up the smallest members of the team, and headed off to Disneyland Paris to make some truly magical memories together. 🏰

Running a small business means life can get incredibly busy, so taking a step back to laugh, explore, and enjoy precious family time is something we’ll always treasure.

Now we’re ready to get back to bringing you The True Taste of Sicily.

One of our trusted producers is Tartufi Sicilia, a family-run truffle specialist based in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily. Since 2016 they have dedicated themselves to sourcing beautiful fresh truffles and creating authentic truffle products using traditional Sicilian passion and knowledge.

We believe in supporting real people, real families and genuine artisan producers, not mass-produced supermarket products. Every product we import has a story behind it, and every producer we work with shares the same passion for quality, tradition and authentic Sicilian food.
