It's all a bit short notice, for sure. As from yesterday, the rumours became reality. As from the 1st November 2021, The Ben changes management. I'll take with me absolutely fabulous memories, which include some of the funniest and most bizarre happenings. The plan is to be back to share some more....eventually. Hopefully not too far in the future. Will keep you posted. Love to all x

Girls and Boys. Thinking out loud here. Really saddened to hear that there have been a few incidents. Considering all, it might be wise to keep the Ben closed this weekend. If it looks settled after a week (for the Ben that is 12 days) then I assume that we can resume again in super cautious mode. Let me know how you feel. Feedback appreciated.

Just watching Corona Virus live update. Hopefully, I have the advice right this time? 🤭 It seems for this weekend at least, that in the Highlands, we shall be following Level 1 guidelines. That means we are more or less back to where we were before the restrictions became "no alcohol to be served indoors". The 6 from 2 families rule still applies, wearing of facemasks when not seated, table service, no sounds and no standing, only one in the toilets at any time, etc. It could all change the following week or any other time. So, as things stand, all stations go for this weekend. Will post if there is change and please feel free to provide feedback. It is always appreciated.

New Covid Restrictions valid from 9th October till 25th October 2020. Unfortunately, the rules for pubs in our region, is that there is no sale of alcohol allowed indoors. Thanks Zoe for putting me right. Revision: Outdoors ONLY allowed. The nights are drawing in and as to be expected the weather is getting a lot colder. Therefore, it would be best to forget about Outdoors. However, if anyone is up for getting frozen, just send me a message/request!
Thank you all for feedback.

Owing to the growing number of cases in Scotland, there have been further legal requirements for hospitality. I think we probably knew this was coming. Please Be Cautious: Cases are going up again. Not by much. This is why The Ben must be kept to just Golspie/Rogart. We Do NOT want it and we don't want to spread it. I was down Inverness yesterday and the roads were packed both directions. People were great with their facemasks but we have visitors that might not always be as compliant. If after three weeks, we stay good, The Ben will be open to all the local Sutherland area. You can also follow updates online by Colin Souter, which provides all you need to know (https://www.facebook.com/groups/CoronaVirusHighlandsIslandsUpdates) and there is the UK Gov website for all UK stats https://coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=overview&areaName=United%20Kingdom Also https://www.travellingtabby.com/scotland-coronavirus-tracker/?fbclid=IwAR0kYhUZSUDpzivZ5gFRjGM4lgFyT08-Z1-DCC8_s7LTiSvsnooltodQAlE which tracks Scotlands data.

Opening Hours for Bar, until reviewed again are Friday and Saturdays from 6pm until licensed Hours. It is with a heavy heart that the Saturday lunch club has been removed for the current period. The Sat lunch club need a bit of protection right now and a good dose of reinsurance (especially during the summer months, that Covid is not a threat). The other reason for removing Sat lunch slot, is also due to the fact, that more time will be required for the daily Covid clean. It would be great to have a system in place to ensure that everyone that shows up is allowed entry. That is work in progress right now. Hopefully the numbers/areas allowed will increase and restrictions reduced too. But Your health and Safety, as well as that of your families, and my own ;) will always come first. Here are the Rules:
*Numbers restricted to 30 registered visitors
*Visitor registration required:
Information required: Name: Phone: Date of Visit: Arrival time: (Dep Time if possible)
Data Held for 21 days and ONLY available to Public Health.
*Customers Must bring own Face covering.
*The Public Bar is for Bar Service and Visitor Registration ONLY.
Sanitise on Entry via Public Bar Door (Street side) and then Register Arrival
*Entry will be refused if: registration not effected, no facemask, numbers have exceeded, not santised hands, or no valid ID (driving license or passport as proof of age)
*Customers must wear their own face covering for Bar Service and Going to Toilets
*Seating area in Function Room and Sun Lounge, restricted to 30 pax ONLY.
Music supplied using own phones. Charger and Sound system supplied via WiFi.
*All drinks served in plastic. Each person must bin their own plastics. Extra Bins supplied for this purpose. This reduces risk for both customers and staff.
*Only one person per Toilet at any time. Specifically one Female in female toilets and one male in male toilets at any one time
*No Loitering in Hallways
*All exits are used as Fire Exits and must remain unobstructed and not be jammed open.
*Air circulation by windows and extractor fans where necessary

Coronavirus: Pubs close again after punters test positive for COVID-19

The Covid Opening Rules will be reposted again. (Currently in the comments section of the previous post "Getting-Ready-to-Open", I think the best approach for the time being is to keep entry strictly Golspie for the time being, i.e. we try to create a Safe zone. Anyone even slightly sick, should reconsider. I expect by now, you all know what the symptoms are (fever, cough, lack of smell or taste). Well you should!! It's been fired at us on a daily basis LOL. ;) What we clearly want to avoid is this news!! Cheers https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-pubs-close-again-after-punters-test-positive-for-covid-19-12022747?fbclid=IwAR2eN0r99dx8BbzOyvBwAkgX0nAbxMKQcuOy06ALGy-Wb7M_eKLJtGChKA8

Virus Update: It's not easy for us folks who have pubs. There's been no clear directive on our position, plus we also have a moral responsibility to the public. Retailers that are open are providing essential life support (food supply, petrol, medicines, etc) We have been asked so far, to keep social distancing, in order to reduce the effects of the pandemic and also to preserve the effectiveness of the NHS. We have not received any order to shut down or close. Not yet anyway. But that could change in a moment. So sorry to be a wet blanket. :( Right now I am suffering from what appears to be quite a heavy cold. So have the usual symptoms, plus coughing. It is slowly on the mend since last Sunday evening. I am getting better ;) I will remain closed this weekend for sure. Just to make sure the bug has gone. What happens next depends on how things pan out. I will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience. And Jake Chambers (I put your keys in the letter box) x ;) :D Update: By Law all pubs are closed till further notice. Take care. Stay safe and hope it passes soon xx
