Orm's Øl

Orm's Øl Orm’s Øl is a 5BBL microbrewery nestled in the 14th-century Ormside Hall.

Less than 50 metres away lies the grave of a Viking named Orm—sword in hand—buried with the Ormside Bowl beside Cumbria’s oldest church. Øl means ale in Old Norse.

It’s great to discover a new brewery that’s rooted in tradition whilst delivering original and powerful brews! That’s exactly what we’ve found with Ormsøl, a small, independent brewery crafting bold, characterful beers in Cumbria. ⚔️ 🍺

Gullhyrndr (Golden Ale) 3.9%
A golden ale as bright and smooth as its name.

Rauðr (Red Ale) 4.5%
A bold red ale with a smooth caramel soul.

Bitr (Smooth malty traditional bitter) 4.2%
A balanced bitterness wrapped in smoothness and a silky head.

Døkkr (Smooth Stout) 5.0%
A true stout, no gimmicks, just depth.

Fun fact of the day… Øl means ale in Old Norse.

🐣 Easter Taproom – Orm’s Øl

The Vikings may not have celebrated Easter…
but they definitely knew how to celebrate spring and good beer.

So the Orm’s Øl taproom will be open for two days over Easter:

🍺 Good Friday – 3 April
⏰ 2pm – 6pm

🍺 Saturday – 4 April
⏰ 2pm – 10pm

Fresh cask ales on the bar and at least one Prófun experimental brew (very likely a Weisbier if the brewer behaves himself).

Expect:

⚔️ Proper cask ale
🍺 Viking hospitality
🐣 Possibly questionable Easter eggs
🔥 Taproom atmosphere

Bring friends, family, and anyone who believes beer is better than chocolate.

Taproom Open – Saturday 14 March (2–10pm)
🏉 Six Nations Final Day

England may be struggling… but Orm’s Øl isn’t.

This Saturday the taproom is open for the final day of the Six Nations, and Orm himself is charging down the pitch.

Special Prófun beers on the bar:

🍺 ESB – proper English bitter, rich malt, balanced hops.
🍺 Bœr-öl Saison – our Nordic farmhouse take on a Saison. Rustic, dry and dangerously drinkable.

Alongside the usual lineup of Orm’s ales.

Kick-off: 2pm
Last orders: 10pm

Come watch the rugby, drink some proper beer, and see if Orm can carry England over the line.

Taproom – Saturday 28th February
This month’s Prófan may have started with someone saying:
“What if…?” … so here we are.

🍺 Mildv3 the third iteration of our 3.9% northern Mild. Balanced, smooth, sessionable — exactly what it should be …

Is it going into cask and bottle? Your choice if Yes? It’s Mýkr

And then…
🥣 Braggot (with 25% oats).
Yes. A Braggot — that old beer-mead hybrid. But we’ve added a quarter oats to the grist.

Why?Because Vikings ate oats.Because we had honey.Because it felt like the sort of thing that should exist.

It’s not porridge. It’s not sweet mead. It’s full-bodied, slightly wild, and very much Prófan.

Call it a Viking breakfast … though Hearth Beer works - HǫfrölCall it a mistake.Call it what you like — just try it.

Saturday 28th. Doors open as usual (2-10pm)
Skål,Orm’s Øl
