Today our shepherd, Belle, joined a farm walk in Northamptonshire hosted by Tesco and the Social Association.
It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and learn more about practical ways to improve soil health, support sustainable farming, and strengthen the future of our agricultural landscapes.

We’ve made a wallow for our pigs. We dug out an area, added plenty of water, and now it’s the pigs new favourite spot. Safe to say they are absolutely loving it. A wallow is a muddy area where pigs can roll around to cool themselves down, Pigs can’t sweat, so wallowing helps regulate their temperature, protects their skin from sunburn, and keeps flies and bugs away too!
muddy, happy pigs all round 😂🐽

This week we had our main flock of ewes and their lambs in. The lambs received an overall health check along with their Heptavac vaccination.
Heptavac P Plus helps protect the lambs against clostridial diseases and pasteurellosis, which can cause serious illness and sudden death in lambs. The vaccine covers conditions such as pulpy kidney, tetanus, lamb dysentery, struck, black disease, blackleg, braxy, and pasteurella pneumonia.
Vaccinating the lambs is an important part of flock health management, helping to build immunity early in life and keeps the lambs healthy and thriving.

🐑 What is a Refractometer & Why do we use one for Colostrum? 🍼
A refractometer is a tool used to measure the quality of colostrum which is the ewe’s first milk after lambing. Good colostrum is packed with antibodies, energy, vitamins, and nutrients that newborn lambs need to survive and thrive.
Using a refractometer helps us check whether the colostrum is strong enough to give lambs the best possible start in life. The higher the reading, the better the antibody levels.

Unfortunately, this ewe’s lamb was born dead. She was only expecting a single, but sadly lost it at birth.
The lamb we gave her to adopt was one of a set of triplets, a ewe can struggle to successfully rear three lambs on her own, as there often isn’t enough milk or energy to support them all.
To give this lamb the best chance, we used the skin from the ewe’s deceased lamb and placed it onto the triplet to help transfer the scent and encourage her to accept it.
The “skin jacket” stayed on for 2 days, and now it’s off we’re really pleased to say it’s been a successful adoption and she’s caring for the lamb as her own. A sad start, but a great outcome in the end.

We’re excited to share that we’ve welcomed some new arrivals to the farm our beautiful Middle White pigs! 🐖
The Middle White is a traditional British breed, known for its friendly nature and distinctive “smiling” face. They’re a hardy, outdoor breed and are especially prized for producing high quality pork with fantastic flavour and tenderness.
We’re looking forward to raising them slowly and naturally, giving them the best care as they grow.
If you’d like to follow their journey from field to fork, keep an eye on our page we’ll be sharing regular updates along the way.
And for those interested, we’ll be offering pork boxes once they’re ready, packed with delicious cuts straight from our farm.
Stay tuned and come along for the journey! 🌱

Our ewes have now made it to the lambing fields the count down is on

Today our ewe lambs are being crutched 🐑✂️
Crutching is the process of shearing the wool from around the tail, back end, and belly. It helps keep these areas clean, reduces the risk of flystrike, and makes things much more hygienic for lambing.
As we lamb outdoors the natural way, this is especially important, it helps the ewes lamb more easily and keeps things cleaner for newborn lambs in the field.

How good does our lamb look 😍We still have some lamb boxes available ready for collection tomorrow
