We present to you: Kelpie Jams!
This new seaweed-based jam is a must-have in your fridge. Seaweed jam is a healthy choice thanks to the large number of vitamins, but also calcium, proteins and iron. We have improved the health factor of our new jams and no longer add artificial sugars. The new Kelpie Jams are flavoured with healthy, natural honey from local beekeepers!

Good news! Our production plant in Inverness will be reopened this Friday the 20th of November. A thorough food inspection has proven the safety of our production process and given Kelpie Green Ltd the green light to resume production and distribution. Furthermore, the new testing process for biotoxins will be incorporated into the production process at once, ensuring the safe consumption of all our products.
We want to encourage our customers to keep an eye on our social media during the coming week, for we have a special announcement in store for you. In the meantime, stay safe!
Kelpie Green is excited to announce that we are opening a new seaweed bed, right outside of Inverness!
After talking with a number of health professionals to discuss how to prevent future contamination of our products, we decided to move the bed further away from the coast line. This will limit the impact of fresh water entering our farms, even during storms, and will significantly decrease the risk of biotoxins entering our products.
This week, we have also started started developing an intense and profound testing process for all of our products. This way, we will be able to detect any type of algae in the seaweed we harvest. We are currently running some trials, and we foresee that the testing process will be fully operational by November 20.
As a company, our main goal has always been to provide our customers with high-quality and sustainable seaweed products. With these measures, we will be able to work on the Kelpie Green dream in a safe environment. We would like to thank our staff and consumers for their continued support and belief in us!
The investigation into the contaminated products that caused severe food poisoning with two people has been concluded. We have held a press conference this morning to inform the press and our customers of the results. Below, we state the most important findings:
- The contamination was caused by marine biotoxins, which are produced by blue-green algae. These algae normally cannot grow in salt water. However, after storm Alex raged past Scotland on the 4th of October, the algae entered our farms and started growing on the seaweed.
- We have tested all of our products for remnants of the algae, but only the Juicy Jam produced with the seaweed harvested from one particular farm tested positive. Every Juicy Jam product with expiry date 30/09/2021 can still be returned to the stores in exchange for a full refund. Our other products are safe to use.
- Both the contaminated seaweed farm and the plant where the contaminated products were produced are closed for inspection and decontamination. We will inform the public as soon as both are operational again.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our stakeholders once more for their patience and understanding, and to apologise for the inconvenience, especially to the two victims. Kelpie Green will be holding a press conference in regards to the contamination of one of our seaweed jams. After the contamination of one of our seaweed jams led to the hospitalisation of two of our customers, Kelpie Green Ltd - FR2 has decided to test all of the products we currently have in stock to ensure that such an incident won't happen again.
While testing is not yet completed, we can already conclude that none of our cosmetic products have been impacted and can be safely used. So far, we have not found any contamination in our nutritional products other than the seaweed jam, but we will continue to monitor the situation. If any other product is found to be unsafe for use, we will announce the recall of it through our social media channels (Facebook and LinkedIn).
We hope to soon be able to identify the root cause of the contamination, and will present any additional information as soon as it is available.
Storm Alex affected one of our seaweed farms as well, despite our efforts to control the damage. We are still investigating the effects of the storm on the harvest. Fortunately, most of our farms remain operational and we can still continue our production. We will not let this storm get the better of us!

In the light of the past events, we would like to share an update on the health status of the food poisoning victims. Greta McIntosh and her three-year-old granddaughter will be discharged from hospital tomorrow afternoon. We are grateful for their swift recovery and the impeccable services of Raigmore Hospital's personnel. We wish Greta and her granddaughter all the best!

Two people were hospitalised this Sunday after eating one of Kelpie Green’s seaweed jams. The root cause of the incident remains unclear. Therefore, we will work together with the National Health Agency (NHA) to investigate the matter and possible contamination of the food product. More information will be released as soon as more facts are available.
Kelpie Green has ordered a nation-wide product recall of the jam. Our consumers can return the product to the place of purchase. In addition, a consumer hotline has been created on the following number to answer any questions our consumers might have: 01349 960 194.
