Calling all GARDENERS and ALLOTMENTEERS!!
You need WOOL and the community's Crofters need YOU!!!
Wool is bloody amazing for your garden and veg patches ...... you just probably don't know it yet!!
Here are some of the ways you can use RAW FLEECE around your plants!!
π Mix raw fleece with sheep poo (although I suspect most poo would do), stuff in an old sack, place on top of your soil in the poly tunnel and you have yourself an environmentally friendly grow bag for tomato plants!
π Use the daggings and old fleece around our newly planted trees. Its stops grass and w**d growth around the trees whilst they are establishing
π Wool insulates roots and breaks down in the soil over time
π Place around the root ball of shrubs and trees when planting, to give your plant a better start.
π It's great for wildlife to 'steal' for nest building
π Wool is biodegradable. It breaks down slowly, fertilizing the plants with a generous nitrogen content of a whopping 17 percent compared with the 6 percent nitrogen in commercial turf products. And it is water-retentive.
π Wool is a fabulous product for absorbing oil spills
π Use in the garden around the kids climbing stuff to soften falls and avoid muddy patches.
π Insulation for outside taps and water pipes
π Use as packaging for plants
π Lining for hanging baskets.
π Place around the flowerbeds as a slug deterrent
π Wool can be rotted down into compost - it's already sold in some garden centers
π Wool has an insulating effect and is a great w**d barrier. It helps maintain soil moisture, keeps soil temperature more constant, and nitrogen is present in greater amounts in the plants when wool is used as a mulch. Use as a natural w**d membrane when creating or repairing paths, often used by National Parks in the repair of overused mountain trails so if it works for them then it will work for you.

What was the most enjoyable part of your farm visit?
Fire fighters and a strong sense of community
Being able to catch up with everyone in the local community and seeing all the children playing
Food was super. Animals were happy and healthy and the people were lovely
the animals
Being able to chat about all the animals.
Watching the kids learn about farming
How relaxed and friendly the atmosphere was. We were made to feel so welcome.
Meeting members of community since Covid. Seeing the baby animals
Seeing the kids enjoying getting to see all the animals up close
Did you learn anything new about farming?
How awesome the pigs are
That Janeβs pork is delicious!! (& so are the eggs)
How quiet chickens are
Watching my daughter learn and watch the pigs
To ensure my toddler doesnβt ever chase hens as that can cause stress and reduce their ability to lay eggs.
That all the chickens etc live there for so long and they do all the work there
Did anything surprise you about your visit?
How clean the farm was
That there were animals for the children to interact with, other than watching from afar. This helps build curiosity, warmth and kindness towards the animals at such a young age. Such a great experience.
Variety cuts of meat that they are able to sell
Finally, any further comments?
Such a wonderful way to spend a family morning as three generations. Lyne Mhor Croft was a fantastic experience for my toddler, who thoroughly enjoyed every second. Close interaction with the animals was certainly a hit. Adam and Jane created a wonderfully welcoming and friendly environment, with lovely farming experiences and happy memories for my toddler.
