Let's talk... Filters
Bacteria range in size from 0.5-50 microns and cannot be seen by the naked eye.
A 5 micron filter will stop bacteria and other particles of 5 micron or larger from passing through.
The smaller the micron rating, the more effective it is at filtering bacteria particles from the water.
Filters also remove particulates such as sand, dirt and salt.
Filters generally range from 5-20 microns and can be:
Melt-blown (pictured)
Wound polypropylene
Pleated polyester
Carbon block
Wound cotton

What is a micron?
A micron is a very small unit of length, equal to one millionth of a metre, known as a micromillimetre.
A micron is invisible to the naked eye, not becoming visible until it reaches a size of 40 microns - to put this into context a human hair is 100 microns, we're talking tiny tiny particles.
One of Marc's longstanding clients recently took delivery of these pumps for a project.
The Grundfos Bareshaft NB Stainless End Suction pumps were supplied along with Danfoss Aqua Drives, as per their request.
This is the second set delivered to this client, who was delighted with the quality of the first set delivered back in 2022, they also have another 3 on order for November delivery.

CASE STUDY
Marc Elrick talks us through the project that has meant the most to him during his time at Filpumps - at the University of Aberdeen Hillhead Halls of Residence.
Members of the Filpumps team visited the Aberdeen Scientific Services lab at The James Hutton Institute Institute recently.
This fascinating place is where we send our customers water samples to be tested in order to analyse the water quality and determine if any contaminants are present.
The team were given an in depth, behind the scenes session, to find out how the lab carries out the testing - from fluorescing bacteria to spectral analysis.
We also had the opportunity to quiz the resident scientists on all manner of water quality conundrums which we have encountered over our 30+ years of service.
The visit was extremely informative, providing a greater understanding of the entire water analysis process. Moving forward, this will allow Filpumps to offer an even higher level of service and support to our clients.

This month marks 10 years since Marc Elrick joined Filpumps in Key Account Sales.
We wanted to take the opportunity to thank Marc for his continued service to the company, and congratulate him on reaching this milestone.
Delighted to have been part of this project for Crathes Castle, Garden & Estate on their journey towards sustainability.
The Scottish Government gave the Northeast of Scotland £1M to support projects that contribute towards the journey to Net Zero through the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund.
Thanks to your votes from the local community, Crathes Castle secured the funds to secure a new water capturing borehole which which will help advance Aberdeenshire’s transition to a carbon neutral, sustainable future.
In recent droughts local authorities across the region have been forced to extract extra water from local rivers, further placing our local environment & wildlife at risk/under pressure so this project will increase resilience to climate change and lessen the impact of Crathes' high water use on our environment and local community!
Work has begun this week on the project and we wanted to give all those involved a big thank you.

Commercial and public supplies must have these checks carried out annually by law. Domestic and private properties are not governed by law, but it is best practice to do this annually.
