Garioch Community Kitchen is a Scottish Charity that provides practical cooking sessions for members
(26)
The kitchen is run by a voluntary committee supported by representatives from NHS Grampian and Aberdeenshire Council. The committee members have a wealth of experience in the catering and hospitality industry as well as nutrition and teaching qualifications. The project aims to encourage practical cookery skills within local communities, raise awareness of healthy eating messages, food hygiene and
deliver training through its brand name ‘Confidence to Cook”. The kitchen offers a variety of courses, including practical cooking skills, nutrition and food hygiene courses and 'Training for Trainers' courses for members of the community and support workers. REHIS accredited Food Hygiene and Nutrition courses are also available to those seeking to increase their knowledge, skills and employability prospects. The training kitchen welcomes all ages and groups of people, from all over Grampian, whatever their skill level may be and is also available for hire by individuals wishing to run their own courses. We can not guarantee the Garioch Community Kitchen environment and work surfaces to be allergen free, although we make every effort to try to make sure the food we produce during classes are allergen free.

We were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to the Garioch Community Kitchen for a visit on Saturday afternoon. The Duke got the chance to meet people who have been involved in and benefited from the work we deliver. It was lovely to hear the Duke was no stranger to using a slow cooker either! The Duke then joined the children and together made scones and pizza followed by a cup of tea. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the visit, a great day was had by all!

Lemon chicken (serves 2): Ingredients: (For the coating) -1 chicken breast or chicken thighs -1 egg white -2tspn cornflour - dash of olive oil (The sauce) -1 lemon (juice and zest) 85 mls chicken stock (more as required) 1/2 tbspn sugar or honey -1 tbspn light soy sauce - splash of dry sherry (optional) -1 clove garlic (chopped) -1 red chilli (finely chopped or use dried chillis) -1 tspn cornflour mixed with a little water Method: 1. Make the coating above and whisk well. Add chicken and leave to coat while prepping ingredients for the sauce 2. Get the pan really hot, add some oil in a NON STICK PAN (CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!) and add coated chicken and stir like there's no tomorrow!! It will eventually turn crispy with a coating on it (more so than mine which isn't very non stick now!!) pop to the side on a plate 3. Add all the ingredients for the sauce (except for the cornflour) bring to the boil then add the cornflour/ water mixture and simmer gently for a few mins till thickened. 4. Add chicken, mix and you're done!! Serve with rice, cauliflower rice or quinoa

Half went to the Garioch Sports Centre and had a gym induction with Chris and then a supervised work out.
The other half was at the Garioch Community Kitchen and did a ready steady cook night! The winning main course was Fajitas with homemade salsa and the winning pudding was poached pears.
Overall winners were Jake n Henry. The results were very tasty.
All due to be repeated in 2 weeks time so everyone gets a chance to do both activities.
