A frustrating way to end our home league campaign yesterday. Reckon if we were still playing now, we’d still not have scored…..!

We started the game well and controlled large parts of the 1st half playing some nice football and creating several chances - 2 good strikes from Billy & Harley both flashed just wide. The best chance came from a corner which the visitors somehow kept the ball out the net with several blocks on the line.

The early stages of the 2nd half followed the same pattern - although we weren’t quite playing the football we did in the 1st. A good strike from the edge of the box from Jake saw the visitors keeper make a good save.

A bad injury to Ashton who had just come on, saw a 10min delay - and following this we couldn’t seem to get going again. Conceding a goal that looked offside, straight after the restart.

Despite good chances for Charlie & Ricky, and a goal ruled out for offside from Kyle - we couldn’t get the goal we needed to get anything from the game.

A disappointing afternoon - made better by the news that Ashton is fine and hoping to be back in action next week.

MOTM was Lewis for a solid display in the middle of the park.

Heartbreak after a brilliant comeback ………

Thrapston started brightly, looking confident in possession and playing out from the back wall. The ball was moving nicely through the team, but despite the positive start we couldn’t find the breakthrough and went into the break 1–0 down.

A triple substitution at half time saw James, JP and Tate enter the action. Long Buckby extended their lead to make it 2–0, but that proved to be the spark Thrapston needed.

Jamie Day pulled one back with a superb touch and composed finish into the bottom corner. The equaliser followed after great link-up play between Jamie and James, with James’ dangerous cross forcing a Long Buckby defender to turn the ball into his own net.

Momentum was firmly with Thrapston and the comeback was complete when Jamie won a penalty after excellent build-up play, stepping up to make it 3–2 after being 2–0 down.

Thrapston continued to create chances but couldn’t find the fourth goal to put the game to bed. Unfortunately, that proved costly as Long Buckby grabbed a late equaliser before snatching the winner in the final minute.

A tough result after a fantastic fightback, but plenty of positives to take from the performance. 💛💙

Well done! 👏 🔵🟡⚽️

FULL-TIME: Thrapston Venturas 2–0 Great Doddington

Who doesn’t like clean sheets?

⚽ 14’ – Ryan Caller
Opens the scoring like he’s in the back garden. Assist from Alfie Pendred, who probably had more time on the ball than he does on a Sunday morning with a brew.

⚽ 32’ – Peter Beverly
Rose like a salmon at the back post to get his giant head on the ball. Set up by Elliott Rowe corner, who was out there playing chess while Doddington were still figuring out draughts.

Second half summary:

- Subs came on
- Game slowed down
- Controlled the game for a professional win.

Big mentions to the lads coming on:
Sam Fisher, Jamie Gambrell, Harvey Wilkinson, who all played their part in controlling the second half and professionally seeing out the job in hand.

🏆 Man of the Match: Matthew Harris.
Different gravy. Ran the game like he’d paid for the pitch. Shame he wasn’t in Liverpool’s midfield at the Emptihad today!

Up next Tuesday under the lights. Kingsthorpe Jets. See you there! 💙💛⚽️
