A peek inside Mercanta North America!

Mercanta spans 5 cities, 4 countries and 3 continents. Today, we’re heading across the Atlantic to meet the team behind our US office.

For over 15 years, Mercanta has worked with quality and sustainability oriented roasters to bring great coffees from our global supply chains into the North American market.

Leah and Ryan sit in the Seattle office. Leah has been with Mercanta for over 15 years, managing every aspect of our US trade. Ryan manages the lab, keeps shipments moving, and ensures coffees get where they need to go. Jordan, a veteran of specialty coffee, though newly joining the team, works with roasters on the East Coast and in Canada.

Together, they work closely with producers, customers and the wider Mercanta team to keep coffees moving while maintaining the high standards of quality that Mercanta stands for. 🥄☕

🌋 We’re excited to welcome a new set of Guatemala community lots to our UK warehouse, all sourced through our partnership with Los Volcanes Coffee. Their work on the ground is transforming how smallholders in Sacatepéquez and Atitlán connect with the specialty coffee market.

From the 77 Kaqchikel producers of Tinamit Tolimán to Don Otto Barrientos' hard-won farms in San Miguel Dueñas, each of these lots tells a story of resilience, craft and collective progress, backed by consistent processing, quality feedback and traceability from farm to cup.

At the foot of Mount Kenya, in the cool highlands of Kirinyaga County, Mutira Farmers’ Cooperative Society has been supporting smallholder coffee farmers since 1951. Today, it brings together thousands of members across several washing stations, locally known as “factories.”

Currently in stock? Kagumo AA, produced at the Kagumo factory, where the co-op’s headquarters are located. With notes of nectarine, lime, and rooibos tea, it’s a beautiful example of what smallholder collaboration can bring to the cup.

🇵🇪 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming producer Eric Jara to London and Glasgow, where he shared his firsthand insights into this year’s Peruvian coffee harvest and the relationships on the ground.

We had plenty of questions for Eric and the chance to cup some of the first coffees from the 2026 harvest alongside him. We were also delighted to gather with our customers, who were eager to learn more about these exciting coffees and the people behind them.

Stephen Hurst, founder of Mercanta, and Aster Lam, Account Manager at our Singapore office, had the opportunity to visit our key producer partners at Sancoffee in Sul de Minas. 🇧🇷

We were also so happy to share this experience with some of our customers who joined us on this trip, making it even more especial ✨️

The team explored some of the farms that supply Sancoffee with the exceptional lots we’ve been tasting for years, and had the chance to cup the fresh crop right at their facilities.

Thank you to the Sancoffee team for welcoming us so warmly, and for a long-standing partnership that we continue to cultivate together! 🌱
