Brazil, but not as you know it.

Since the 1870s, Ipanema Gourmet has been shaping Brazilian coffee — not just at scale, but with a constant drive for innovation and quality.

In 2018, they took this one step further with the launch of their Premier Cru collection: a series of very small, handcrafted lots produced from the highest elevations of their oldest estate, Rio Verde Farm. Set across 1,566 hectares, Rio Verde rises from 700 up to over 1,000 metres above sea level. It is here, across just 260 hectares of peak terrain, that the story truly begins. This high-altitude section is divided into 32 distinct glebes — individual plots, each with its own altitude, sun exposure, soil composition, and a single varietal.

These micro-environments create coffees with remarkable clarity, structure, and individuality.

Every year, Ipanema releases a new collection under a unique identity — from Aura Matina to Grano Perfetto — each representing a moment in time, captured through terroir and craft. Each lot is carefully hand-harvested and processed using a method selected specifically to highlight its character. The result is then classified into one of three editions — Black, Gold, or Blue — reflecting both rarity and cup complexity, in a system reminiscent of fine whisky. These are not typical Brazilian profiles. They are precise, expressive, and designed to stand apart.

Just Landed: New Crop Tanzania – Iyenga AB, Fully Washed 🇹🇿

Iyenga village—once part of Itumpi—became its own community in 1974 after residents faced challenges accessing government resources. Since then, the village has grown to include essential infrastructure like a hospital and school, supporting its development and independence.

Today, the Iyenga Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society (AMCOS), established in 2003 under the Tanzanian Cooperative Act, brings together 292 members (34 women and 258 men). During harvest, farmers deliver ripe cherries to a central processing unit, where they are carefully hand-sorted, pulped, washed, and sun-dried over 9–10 days. This meticulous process ensures only the highest-quality beans reach your cup.

This lot features a blend of Kent, Bourbon, N39, and Compact varietals. The Compact varietal—developed by Tanzania Coffee Research Institute—offers resistance to Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) and Leaf Rust, supporting smallholder farmers with improved resilience and higher yields.

Tasting notes: caramel, blackberry & brownie.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and take a moment to thank and recognize the incredible women across the world who make the coffee community stronger every day.

From the women working at origin — producers and farmers — to importers, roasters, baristas, clients, friends, and colleagues, your work, dedication, and passion shape our industry in meaningful ways.

A special thank you to the amazing women from the Mercanta team, the London School of Coffee, and Mercanta Micro.

We are proud to celebrate and support women not only today, but every day through our actions, our ethics, and our commitment as a company. Together, we continue working to make the coffee industry a little more fair, inclusive, and sustainable every day.

Thank you.
