The Buffalo Farm is Scotlands largest herd of Water Buffalo, the buffalo roam the hills at Clentrie farm Auchtertool along with an expanding flock of Juicy Jacob sheep and herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. The business was set up in the spring of 2005 with the objective of producing superior quality beef to market direct to the public both through local door to door sales and on a wider scale through

farmers markets. A herd of Aberdeen Angus was established to produce primarily for local customers however opportunities to expand upon this were limited as there are already a number of producers supplying the farmers markets around Scotland. On a larger scale we have set up a herd of water buffalo, a unique product which will give us the opportunity to sell through the farmers markets. The attractions to the water buffalo are countless, the produce a very healthy meat that is lower in cholesterol, higher in mineral content and less than half the total fat content of conventional lean beef and in the words of Chef Nick Nairn they taste “pretty dam fantastic”. Perhaps the reason for their excellent flavour is they are the same animals they were thousands of years ago as they have not been subject to many of the modern intensive farming practices. We have also recently introduced a flock of Jacob sheep which will provide the opportunity to sell Juicy Jacob Lamb

Our expecting Pygmy goat Nannies are getting closer and closer to kidding 😍

We believe we have 5+ pregnant goats, which means there are plenty of adorable goat kids on the way! 💛

Knowing our luck, the first one will probably decide to arrive while we’re all at the Royal Highland Show on Saturday 😂🤦‍♀️

☀️ Summer Event Preparations Are Well Underway! ☀️

Meet Merida during her very first halter training session 😍

For a first attempt, she did incredibly well and we’re so proud of her 💛

It always helps when they’ve spent lots of time around people, but now it’s all about teaching her that the halter isn’t scary, won’t harm her and is a safe, positive experience 👏

This kind of training is really important for us, especially after seeing how helpful it was during Billie’s recent birth.

The good news? 🥹

By the time Horns, Hooves & Hugs arrives, Merida will be just as calm, confident and relaxed as Chandler is now 🐃✨
