I’m new here and figured I better introduce myself..
I’m Jack, the man behind Tasty Jake’s - the brand I’ve created which brings you homemade, Orkney reared beef jerky.
Why “Tasty Jake’s”? Well, my grandad often referred to me as “Jake” or “Jekko” rather than Jack, and this business is something we discussed at length while I lived with him, in his last few months. So, It seemed fitting.
A bit about me- I’ve covered a lot of job roles, mainly within a business and food/retail. Starting within the Harbour fry, from being a part time ‘tattie boy’ to serving, cooking and helping with general day to day running. I dabbled in other work, before moving to Inverness and managing a restaurant- something I loved, a venture that taught me a lot about myself and gave me valuable life experience. All before realising that being home and around family was where I belonged.
Now, why Jerky- it’s a long story but a conversation and a shared recipe with my brother in 2020 is where it started. I butchered that recipe- but after research, self educating and many failed attempts- 2026 is when I perfected my beef jerky, and with encouragement I decided “I can sell this”
I felt Orkney and the amazing local produce we already have, had a gap in the market, that I could try fill. I’ve worked hard, and my family have tried and tested ALOT of jerky..
