In the world of American whiskey, few releases are as iconic or as historically significant as Blanton’s Original Single Barrel. Its debut in 1984 didn’t just introduce a new bourbon to the market; it created a new category entirely. At a time when bourbon was struggling for relevance, Blanton’s arrived to pioneer the “super-premium” movement and in 1984 the first modern single-barrel bourbon was born.

Blanton’s is instantly recognisable for its spherical bottle and collectible horse and jockey stopper, whilst its signature flavour and scarceness have made it a celebrated and highly sought after bottling with whiskey enthusiasts.

This particular bottle is taken from one of the first bottling runs, when it was dumped on the 16th October 1984 from barrel number 549 it had previously been stored in warehouse H on Rick No. 52. Bottled at 93 Proof (46.5% ABV), this is an incredibly rare and wonderful piece of bourbon history.

Ledaig 1972 13yo G&M Connoisseurs Choice

Check out this spectacular 13 year old Isle of Mull single malt that was laid to rest at the Tobermory distillery in 1972 and bottled under the Ledaig moniker for Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice series in the mid-1980’s.

Tobermory adopted the Ledaig name between 1972 and 1975 for all their whisky production, but later just used it as the label for their heavily peated whiskies, which explains why these bottles are so rare and special.

This brown label beauty from the G&M archives was awarded a gigantic 93 points from the fellas at WhiskyFun!

Just arrived on the site today! Link in Bio.

Introducing a couple of scorching Highland Park singles malts on this blisteringly hot UK day!

First, a discontinued 25 year old single malt that was produced by the Orkney Island master distillers, Highland Park, and bottled in the mid-1990’s. Filled at a natural cask strength 53.5% ABV, this old classic scored a big 90 points on WhiskyFun and comes complete with presentation tube that adorns a rather pleasant poem on its inside.

Next, a super rare Orkney single malt that was distilled at Highland Park in 1962 and bottled to commemorate the retirement of the then company chairman, John Goodwin. Bottled at 35 years of age, the same length of time Goodwin spent with the company, this beauty was bottled at a natural cask strength 50% ABV in October 1997, two months before his retirement. One of just 300 very limited bottles that scored a massive 94 points on WhiskyFun.

Both bottles arriving on the site very soon! Link in Bio.

Here’s a couple of very rare indie bottlings, both distilled in the 1960s, as we get ready to welcome in the weekend!

First, a vintage 20 year old Orkney Isles single malt that was distilled at Highland Park on the 10th April 1962 and bottled by Blackadder International for their Limited Edition series in 1982. Yielded from cask numbers 2991/2 at 43% ABV, this is one of just 192 very rare bottles.

Next, a super rare and unique Highland single malt that was laid to rest at the Royal Lochnagar distillery in 1966 and bottled by the original owners of the distillery, John Begg Ltd. Drawn from cask number 758 at a natural strength 64.3% ABV, this “Old Crathie” (as labelled on the rear) is an example of a very rare and exclusive single cask bottling.

Royal Lochnagar was founded by John Begg in 1845. It was first awarded with a Royal Warrant by Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in 1848 and has more recently picked up its 5th Warrant in 2022.

John Dewar & Sons (later part of DCL) acquired the distillery in 1916. Now a part of the Diageo, this is the smallest distillery in their portfolio, meaning the small quantities of its single malt spared for bottling are increasingly sought after! Prior to the formation of United Distillers in 1988, the distilleries within the DCL portfolio were often licensed out to its blending companies, in this instance of this bottle it was former owners, John Begg Ltd.

Both bottles are available on the site now. Link in Bio.

Welcoming a couple of fantastic indie vintage single malts to the site today, fresh from the Douglas Laing archives.

First up, an excellent 36 year old Speyside single malt was laid down at the Glen Grant distillery on the 2nd April 1975 and bottled for Douglas Laing’s Old & Rare Platinum Selection in April 2011. Matured in refill hogshead and finished in a Brandy cask, this single cask was bottled at a natural strength 54% ABV and is one of only 302 bottles.

Next, a spectacular 40 year old Speyside single malt was laid down at the Caperdonich distillery in February 1967 and bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. for their Old Malt Cask series in October 2007. Charged from single refill hogshead number 3920 at a natural strength 42.9% ABV, this is one of only 133 very rare bottles.

Caperdonich distillery was founded in 1898, when it operated for just a few years until 1902. It remained dormant again until 1965 when production resumed to help supply demand for Glen Grant. Sadly, the distillery was to close once again in 2002 and was finally demolished in 2011.

This sensational Ardbeg 1967 vintage is yet another legendary entry plucked from the Signatory Vintage hall of fame.

A gorgeous, deeply-sherried Islay single malt that was distilled on the 15th February 1967 and matured in single dark Oloroso sherry butt number 574 for 28 years, before being bottled by Signatory Vintage in November 1995.

Clynelish 1972 50yo, G&M Private Collection.

This outrageous 50 year old Highland single malt work of art was laid to sleep at the Clynelish distillery on the 16th May 1972 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for their revered Private Collection on the 7th November 2022.

Drawn from refill American hogshead number 5335 at a natural cask strength 58% ABV, this is one of only 135 very limited bottles that comes housed in a gorgeous decanter with fine oak presentation case and COA.

The original Clynelish distillery was built in 1819, adjacent to the present operational site. When demand for production grew a second distillery was built next door in 1969; the new one became Clynelish and the old one was named Brora. The Brora distillery eventually closed in 1983, whilst production has continued at the newer Clynelish site. However, it was announced in late 2017 that the distillery would reopen again, and the Brora stills were officially fired up again in 2021.

The prestige and history of this magnificent bottle make this a huge coup for any discerning collector and/or connoisseur.
