Leeds United Loaded Fries - Munching On Together
After much demand in recent weeks, the Big Dawg is back out of hibernation.
I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t savoured these delights before as I have them every time I am in the stands to see my beloved Leeds. Normally at £8.95 these are a taste sensation but they left a bit to be desired tonight.
Classically, they consist of:
- [ ] Fries
- [ ] Chicken
- [ ] Red Chilli
- [ ] Spring Onion
- [ ] Garlic Mayo
- [ ] Sriracha
In a shocking turn of events, the Sriracha had run out so I had to settle for a solo effort of garlic mayo. Whilst it is a gorgeous sauce, on a dish that has diverse elements it got a bit lost in the mix and struggled without its partner in crime. They also did not factor in the missing sauce so the fries were lacking in needed moisture so were on the drier side of life.
When you have a dish of this calibre nearly weekly, it becomes so familiar that you know it like the back of your hand. Something was not the same about the chicken as it was overly crunchy to the bite and was incredibly peppery so I think they might have changed it. Usually it is quite soft which compliments the fries greatly. On the bite today, there was too much of a texture contrast between them which made for an odd experience in the mouth as the chips were slightly undercooked.
As per, the fresh elements in the form of spring onions and red chilli did some great work to elevate the dish. The two flavours combined bring great balance via their contrast of the spicy chilli and the soothing mildness of the spring onion. The fresh heat from the chilli paired with the usually present Sriracha is normally a highlight and it was sorely missed tonight.
Tonight’s serving reminded me of Leeds United. Always the potential to be class and up there with the elite or lacking effort or ambition. Sadly, it was the latter tonight and reminiscent of their first half effort against Sunderland. Disappointing.
5.8 out of 10
Hopefully the next review won’t take as long as this one, where should I go next?
