All we saw of the eclipse last night. At around 6:10pm. The rest of time was spent in great company with locals and tourists who came out to watch the show, even if there wasn’t much to see. Sometimes the fun is just in the gathering itself and we met so many nice and interesting folks! Getting excited now for the darker months and more night time astronomy - hopefully inder clearer skies!

Looking towards this morning from the All Abilities Path in Little Assynt. One of my favourite viewpoints of this wonderful hill. And yes, it’s even wheelchair and pushchair friendly! Also terrier friendly. My treat to Lucky as we were embarking on an otherwise long and not so scenic trip to the vet.

Of course, the doesn’t end when you reach the lighthouse - there’s the whole matter of actually getting home! I was able to catch the minibus and ferry back to the mainland, and was thankful for that - it’s a long slog through barren moorland otherwise. I had a final camp near the Kyle of Durness. Meadow vibes and a very pooped Lucky dog!

I rejoined the at the main trailhead to Sandwood Bay, an excellent track popular with both walkers and cyclists, especially on a blue sky day like this. But it jarred me - how I longed to be back in the remote boggy wilds. I felt myself rushed. But the Bay was a indeed a beautiful vista to arrive to, and a great place camp (there are good spots beyond the dunes); what a treat to have a beach sunset walk and share it with Lucky the (he’s 11 now, and still got loads of spring in his step with plenty of endurance for a few days on the trot, though probably not the whole trail which is why I’ve been going solo… and even in this case I think the heat got to him a bit - lots of water and loch stops!).
