National Food Service London NFS London is based in Clapton, Hackney. We prepare and deliver 1,000 vegetarian meals each week to people that are in need of access to food.

This evening we’ll be joined by one of our elders, Mridu Thanki, for a workshop on fermenting, pickling and chutney making!

Mridu has experience organising around food justice all over the world, including:
🍆 World Kitchen in Leith, Edinburgh promoting awareness of different cultures and communities in Edinburgh
🥦 Breakfast project for the School of Hope for children living in slum communities in Bangladesh
🌶An Asian older people’s luncheon club in Hackney.
🥕 ran cookery demos and classes in UK, New Zealand, Paraguay, Latvia & Ukraine.
🧅 cooking for food project in the pandemic
📚 published two cookery books: Feast of India and The Global Vegetarian

We will be learning about all sorts of preserves, and making some of our own to sell at the Festive Market on Friday 2nd December. Eliza will be facilitating a discussion on fundraising for food projects. This will all be topped off with a delicious vegetarian meal prepared by Eliza and Mridu. We’re excited!

Our Community Cooks Programme is in full swing at and we want to make sure everyone has a chance to be a part of the magic of community dining. Make sure you save the dates for our next few meals!

We’ll be at the Round Chapel Old School Rooms on 11th November, 9th December, 13th January and 3rd March. All are welcome for a veggie meal served from 6:30, prepared using surplus produce by our Community Cooks, led by a local chef.

Join us for a workshop and meal this Friday 7th October 6.30-8.30pm at the Round Chapel Old School Rooms to explore community perspectives and practices of Food Justice in Hackney. In this workshop we'll be exploring how we define food justice, relate to the concept and bring it into practice in Hackney.

This year we are excited to be a part of !

Join us for a session of collective learning about the links between radical politics and communal food practices. We will learn from historic examples like the Black Panthers’ breakfast programme. We will explore food practices in social struggles and what we can draw from them in our own organising.

The event will be facilitated by Leila Dear and Beth Martin and organised by Another Provision and National Food Service London, starting with a workshop at 12pm followed by a free-of-charge vegetarian/vegan community lunch.

We’ll be back at the Round Chapel Old School Rooms for the launch of our new project Community Cooks E5 next Friday 9th September at 6pm.

If you are passionate about food, interested in feeding your community and up for having some fun and making new friends, please come along to this launch event to learn about the program, or head to the form linked in our bio to apply to be a participant!

On the 9th you’ll get to meet the program organisers & some of the facilitators, learn more about this course and share in a veggie meal cooked by graduates from last year’s program.

Community Cooks is a course for local food lovers to gain confidence and skills in cooking nutritious, delicious, big batch community meals. It's all about education, working together, skill-sharing, inspiring one another and cooking tasty food for our neighbours!

Following Hackney Food Roots Partnership’s successful pilot, we are excited to announce that the Stokey Community Food Shop is now running every Tuesday 12-2.30pm at The Catholic Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel on Bouverie Road, Stoke Newington.

The Stokey Community Food Shop provides residents the opportunity to purchase their weekly food shop for as little as £4. The aim of the community food shop is to help families and individuals make their money go further, providing access to good quality food for less.
