The swarming season has begun. Can you spot the swarm? If you see a swarm call your local beekeeper. Don't be afraid. They won't sting. That's there most vulnerable moment and they know it.

Too hot for the bees too... How do bees keep the temperature constant in a hive? Same way as humans with fanning. Can you see all bees sitting on the porch and around creating a draft with their wings? No wonder bees die after three to for weeks of exhaustion.

Bee Swarm Removal Suffolk

With may also comes the swarming season for bees:
Swarming is a natural urge of bees. The old queen takes off with half of the hive and settles somewhere in a tree, on a car is or wherever they feel comfy.
The queen in the middle of the cluster is held warm while scout bees fly around and look for a new accommodation. Bees are very tame in that moment and cause no harm unless they are interrupted.

If you see a swarm get in touch and we will remove it for you free of charge before they find a new place which might perhaps be a cavity in your house.

Happy Easter from TheHoneyPig.co.uk

what a lovely sunday, it is warm and sunny, the perfect weather for bees. the ladies have been very active and collecting pollen all day long. Pollen is high in energy and signalises the queen that summer is coming.

Now she needs to rebuild the colony from 5k overwintering bees to more than 50k in summer with a daily egg laying rate of almost up to two thousand. (yes, she can lay 1mio eggs in her life time with just one insamination from different drones which die in the act).

by the colour of the pollen (yellow and light orange) and the time of the year we know that this pollen comes from grey willows and japanese cherries.

Happy Easter!

One of the hives I overtook from a beekeeper still had a queen excluder. A QE doesn't allow the queen to go to the upper boxes which are called supers. These boxes are for honey only and because of the bigger size of the queen she doesn't fit through the QE and can't lay eggs there during foraging in summer. But because of the clustering of the bees around their food/honey in winter to maintain temperature the queen would be excluded and could die hence the whole colony would be doomed. Fortunately nothing happened...
