Historic Solera isn't just rich. It has a sherried depth that's difficult to put your finger on.

It begins with an average of two years in PX and Oloroso sherry-seasoned oak, where the rum develops rich notes of figs, baked plums and dark chocolate. It then enters our traditional solera, where each new addition is gradually married with older rums, bringing greater depth, harmony and elegance to every sip.

The world's first great global rum blend.

In trying to create one consistent rum for an entire fleet, the Royal Navy began blending rums from Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and beyond. The result was a spirit with extraordinary depth and complexity that no single distillery could achieve alone.

Every rum we make is built the same way: selecting outstanding components from across the Caribbean and beyond, then blending them into something bold, layered and unmistakably Black Tot.

Sherry-enriched flavour isn't created overnight. It's built over time.

We begin with exceptional rums from Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica, each selected for the character it brings to the blend. Rich Guyanese rum provides structure and depth, elegant Barbadian rum adds balance and tropical sweetness, while distinctive Jamaican rum delivers vibrant fruit and complexity.

Those rums are then matured in PX and Oloroso sherry casks before entering our solera, sourced in its entirety from a bodega near Jerez, where each new addition is gradually married with older rum already in the blend. The result is a richer, deeper rum with notes of ripe figs, baked plums and bitter dark chocolate, finished with the seamless complexity that only time and blending can create.

Black Tot rum gets its name from the final naval rum ration - a day forever known as Black Tot Day.

But what is a tot, and what role did it have to play in one of the longest-running traditions in naval history?

For the past five years, our Master Blender selected exceptional rum casks from origins including Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica, marrying them with our perpetual reserve and the remaining original Navy rum from the surviving Black Tot flagons.

The result is a limited-edition blend that evolved with every release. Reminiscent of the traditional naval rum style, each expression is rich, robust and indulgent, creating a multi-layered rum that proves great flavour comes from great blending.

The Royal Navy didn't create a remarkable blend by accident.

Some of the standard-issue rums they were selecting from across the Caribbean and beyond are now considered some of the finest and rarest in the world, each bringing their own distinct character to the blend.

Together, they created a style of rum with extraordinary depth and complexity. At Black Tot, we bring our own ingenuity and build on this style of blending with our Master Blender's Reserve – perpetually blending the world's finest and rarest rums.

We take the best of Caribbean rum.

Blending together the delicate honeyed notes from Barbados, stone and tropical fruits from Trinidad, a rich body and depth from Guyana, and a touch of funk from Jamaica, this gives notes of ripe pineapple, vanilla fudge and toasted cinnamon.

Our vibrant blend creates bold complexity that ensures it shines in any cocktail, always prominent and never disappearing.

When our founder tasted the rum from a forgotten navy flagon for the first time, he was blown away. It had layers of sophisticated flavour, it was complex, and it was spectacular.

It was like nothing he had tasted before. It was a rum like no other.

At Black Tot Rum, this discovery led us on a hunt to track down the remaining flagons, and find out how the navy had created a rum with such depth of flavour.
